Why is my oil caramel colored after an oil change?

I just had my oil changed and I always check it at home right after. This time the oil was a medium caramel color when in the past is has always been clear. They also stated that the oil was overfull. I did not add anything to it. I am wondering if this will hurt the engine. I was wondering if they did not really even change it. They also said they filled the windshield washer and I can't even see anything below the full line.
Why is my oil caramel colored after an oil change?
You are getting some kind of moisture in the oil one way or another. Could be a slight head gasket leak, condensation inside the engine, or possibly even some water that was in the oil tank at the shop were you had your oil changed.
Why is my oil caramel colored after an oil change?
I've never seen a clear oil, I think its fine.
water is mixed in your oil

flush the oil and if it repeats you have a blown gasket
Sometimes they change the oil and not the oil filter, if they do not have it in stock. Which has happened to me once (now I change my own oil) but it may just be the oil they use. I personally have not seen oil that does not have a distinct brown color to it so if its not dark brown you should be fine.

If its a buttery color and texture thats the head gasket gone bad not the color of your oil.
if its not clear possible just a cheap oil like house brand if you didnt say what type you wanted they used what they wanted that and the over full thing well id be back asking why and maybe its a bad head gasket but for sure go back ask why its over full
It is possible a head gasket is blown, it leaks water into the oil giving it that milky color and makes it overfull too
The detergents in the oil are doing their job. They are removing the sludge from the oil pan and the lubrication system. If there was no sludge, the fluid would remain clean.

How can I get rid of the cigarette-smoke smell in my car vents?

I'm a nonsmoker, and I think the last person to work on my car was a smoker. Now the air coming through the windshield and floor vents smells like an ash tray.

Is there anything I can do to eliminate or reduce the smell? Changing the cabin microfilter didn't help. The car is a 2003 Nissan Altima.
How can I get rid of the cigarette-smoke smell in my car vents?
Go to your local airport, - where the small airplanes fly in and out of. There is a product called %26quot;Ozium%26quot; that is specificaly made for removing odors,- it is most commonly used for removing %26quot;puke smell%26quot; from aircraft (this sort of smell very unpleasant in confined cabin of a small plane). This is product we used years ago when I worked as a mechanic for a Piper dealer. He kept his airplanes smelling clean and fresh with this stuff. Undobutedly there are other brands that do the same thing, - just tell the person a the the counter what you are looking for and why, and they will get you the right product, --or tell you where to buy it! All you have to do is start system working, and spray a little into the area where the air enters the heater/ventillating system, - generally near windshield under edge of hood on drivers side. Also you can try a little in the intake side of heater with the setting at %26quot;recirculate%26quot; (if car has this feature), - this will pull it through %26quot;entry%26quot; part of internal input also ( just listen for sound where it is %26quot;sucking in%26quot;). This will also get rid of %26quot;musty smell%26quot; from a/c, - if water isn't draining out properly and has grown %26quot;algae%26quot; (moss) inside heater plenum in %26quot;tank area%26quot;!
How can I get rid of the cigarette-smoke smell in my car vents?
the problem might be the cars air filter....clean it...or ghange it
Use fabreeze spray in there.
Lysol spray
There is a product that you can buy at some auto parts stores. It is basically an air freshener that you spray directly into the vents just for smells like that. It is sold with the rest of the air conditioning products like freon and stuff like that.

Also, it is possible that your car uses a cabin air filter. It is a filter designed for the interior of the car to keep bad smells from coming in. If you have one and it has never been changed, you will definately want to change it. They are located under the plastic piece under the wiper blades. I hope this is of some help to you. Good luck. :o)
All newer vehicles ( last 12 - 15 years ) have a cabin air filter. It will trap the odors, change that. It will help eliminate the smell.

What is the best motor oil for a 2003 chevy impala and 1 more thing?

so i was looking into changing my own oil. i dont know what oil to get ive always taken my car to change it to wal-mart but i need to save som more money so yea! i wanna change the oil myself but not sure which oil to choose whether regular oil like wal-amrt stuff or like castrol gtx or mobil or quaker state.

also when is it that the windshield wipers need to be removed?
What is the best motor oil for a 2003 chevy impala and 1 more thing?
Wintertime being on us, I would suggest a 5w30 oil. Now it is your choice on going conventional or synthetic or even semi synthetic. There are many folks out there that will tell you, %26quot;use brand X and not brand Y%26quot; but all in all, all the oils out there on the store shelf will do the job. Personally, I chose to use Valvoline Durablend ( a semi synthetic oil ) which does cost a bit more, but not quite as much as full synthetic. I have had no problems with Castrol or Quaker State oils as well, but sadly have had problems with Pennzoil. As I did say before, some folks will tell you to use a particular brand, I simply put my preference and experience up and you will choose what you want. Make sure you recycle the used oil properly, and dont forget to use clean motor oil to lube the gasket on the oil filter when you install it.

For your wipers, the general rule of thumb is twice a year. I tend to do mine spring and fall. If you have streaking, just go ahead and replace the wiper blades, its not a big cost, and the visability just could save you from an accident. Good luck
What is the best motor oil for a 2003 chevy impala and 1 more thing?
castrol gtx is best oil to get

if getting a squeak on windshield when wipers in downward motion then they need changing other than that look to see if frayed or worn down also a good idea to change them yearly
5w-30 if you can get it trop artic
The ONLY reason manufacturers recommend 5W30 is because they are required to; due to the fact that they run the light oil in the engine for the EPA mileage test.

Run Shell Rotella-T, 15W40 unless you're in a really cold climate. It has better lubricity than synthetics. Hot Rod magazine did a multi-page article about oils, particularly as they relate to camshaft wear, a few months back. Basically car oil is getting worse, due to emission requirements on new cars, diesel oil is still carrying the max amount of what provides lubrication, which is what all, especially used %26amp; older, cars need.

  • What is the penalty for driving without insurance?

Ok so 2 years ago I was driving along and a tire fell out of a truck bed in front of me and broke my windshield and did a little bit of front end damage. The truck kept going and so I ended up submitting a claim for like $600.00 to my insurance company to cover the damage. In return, they raised my rates to a point where the increase added up over two years has cost more than the repair bill. I've tried changing companies, but the claim is still in my records and I am under 21 so all the quotes I've received have been higher than what I was originally paying. As for the the rest of my record, it is totally clean, no wrecks, tickets, or even close calls. I'm about ready to say screw it to insurance, as I feel I'll never need it. As far as I see it, I've already paid the insurance companies over $5000 and they've only covered $600.00 of damage and have treated me like crap.So whats the average penalty if I do get stopped and don't have insurance?
What is the penalty for driving without insurance?
Darn....you took my best joke. There's no penalty for driving without insurance. The penalty is if you get caught.

My experience....have driven for years without because I can't afford it....seriously. They say you can't afford to NOT have it, but it does work both ways.

But when you do get caught, it gets very expensive. If you got caught, you'd probably pay $200-300 for the fine, and then have to start insurance all over again, and you'd get screwed on the price because of your age. Starting fresh with new company also screws you just because you're new. As you stay with them, rates will go down. But because you're under 21, you're screwed either way. Just part of automobile life. I went thru it too when I was your age.

(Of course, back then, they didn't have computerized records to check your insurance status in seconds!!)

You and every other citizen of the US is pissed off at car insurance companies. I'd just start insurance somewhere and stay with them. Eventually, the earlier claim will be taken off your record. And it's so much better when you get pulled over for whatever reason and have insurance card to hand to the cop. There's a backwards satisfaction in silently laughing at the cop that he can't get you for that!! Sometimes, they can tow your car if you don't have it, in some areas.

But back to my dilemna--caught without insurance out of state. $400 fine. Then they notify my state, and I can't get it yet, so they pulled license. So will have to get new insurance $120-150, then pay for reinstate license and any fine on top of that, probably another $200. When you get caught, it can get extremely expensive. Plus, if you are in bad accident, it will work better for you.
What is the penalty for driving without insurance?
The penalty's are worse then just having insurance! Keep searching around with all of the insurance company's. Just search until you find one that is reasonable, Spend a day or two on the phone if you have to, It will be worth it by the amount of money that you will save. One of the reasons that your insurance costs are so high is because of your age. A very large number of auto accidents across the country are caused by persons under the age of 25Yrs
Lose your license, have to carry an SR-22 for 2 years. Sr-22 is proof of insurance that is really expensive, and if you miss one payment, the insurance company notifies the state and you lose your license again. Even if you don't have a car you will have to carry a non-owners SR-22, so your paying insurance on nothing. Plus $160 reinstatment, $26 renewal fee, and $500 in fines. As well my state *Colorado, is a mandatory minimum 2 days in jail
different cities have different fines, some upwards of $150 or more. also they can suspend your liscence if they want.
It depends on what country you are belong because they have different punishment about this. But i will give you an example, if youre living in UK the worst thing that will happen to you, imprisonment. So right now start looking for a car insurance for you. Search cheap car insurance on the net you can try to visit this cheap car insurance site http://www.nightbirdssolutions.com collect some quotations from here and select the best car insurance company for you.
depends on where you live.. you can get a big hefty ticket.. if they catch you so many times they can suspend your license. or down here in tx i know of places that will tow your car if they pull you over and you dont have insurance.

also you wont be able to get your inspection sticker or your registration sticker when the expire..
    driving penalty
Different states have different laws. Most, if not all, do require insurance, though, at least liability, to cover damage to the other guys car if you are in an accident. In NC, it's a hefty fine, points on your license, and, if they want to, they can impound the car. Better keep your insurance.

Airbags in cars can greatly reduce the injury to the driver of a car in a collision because they _______.?

Airbags in cars can greatly reduce the injury to the driver of a car in a collision because they _______.

    A. increase the time and decrease the force of the collision

    B. decrease the time and increase the force of the collision

    C. decrease the time and decrease the force of the collision

    D. increase the time and increase the force of the collision

    3. Impulse is _____.

    A. a vector quantity

    B. a scalar quantity

    C. both a vector and a scalar quantity

    D. neither a vector or a scalar quantity

    4. While driving down the highway a bug splatters into your windshield. The change in momentum would _______.

    A. be greater for the bug

    B. be greater for your car

    C. depend on wind speed

    D. be the same for the bug and the car
Airbags in cars can greatly reduce the injury to the driver of a car in a collision because they _______.?
The CORRECT answers are A, A, and D respectively.

For number 2, the answer is A because a change in momentum is equal to force times time. In a crash, you're going to go from your initial momentum to zero, but you can change momentum in a short period of time (which requires a huge force) or you can change momentum over a longer period (which requires less force). The purpose of the airbag is to increase the time over which you slow down - instead of hitting a hard steering wheel or dashboard, you hit a soft airbag. More time to slow down = less force = less chance of serious injury or death.

Impulse is a change in momentum. Momentum is a vector quantity (meaning it has both magnitude and direction) and so is the CHANGE in momentum.

The change in VELOCITY would be bigger for the bug, but due to the law of conservation of momentum, the momentum change would be the same for the bug and the car.

I hope that helps. Good luck!

Generic static-cling oil change reminder stickers needed?

I change my oil myself and want to purchase an inexpensive static-cling oil-change reminder sticker for the windshield. The ones I'm finding require large lot sizes amounting to over $50. I only want very basic, small stickers.

Check ebay. I know that's a pretty simplistic answer, but I'm always astounded by what can be found. Craigslist offers a %26quot;wanted%26quot; section too. Lots of folks are dumping things. Check %26quot;freecycle.org%26quot; too....as a last resort, because you have to get rid of like, five things for free first, but could be worth it. My hubby just rid himself of lots of things people would have paid for...like a case of epoxy, caulk, nails, screws and some other odds and ends pertaining to his work. Who knows if some car fix-it guy has a stash that's just taking up room in his shop? Good luck!

Hmmm...not a fifty count, but check out the link I found...

    Windshield Crack Question?

Hi im a new driver , and my friend just gave me his car, and there is a crack on the windshield. I've read that a small chip turns into a huge crack, but can someone explaing how that happens, and how long it usually takes? so i can decide if i wanna invest on changing my windsheild now, or save up for a quality one.

    Tnx ^^
    Windshield Crack Question?
If it's a small chip, it can be fixed at a place doing windshield repair. It costs about $60 (but only if it's a small chip and maybe a small crack, no longer than 2-3 inches.)

Yes, it will become a ling crack, if you do not take care of it. When will it happen? Maybe tomorrow, maybe in a month or two.

I fixed windshields on several of my cars at those places and they did a very good job every time, but the cracks were small.

Do it before it's too late. Just look in Yellow Pages under %26quot;Auto Glass%26quot; and you'll find a place.

One more thing. They sell windshield repair kits at auto parts stores, but they do not really work well.
    Windshield Crack Question?
If you have a crack in your windshield, not a long just a rock chip then your are probably in for a new windshield int the near future. Cracks generally can't be fixed, they will only get worse with time and variances in temperature. Usually the first really cold morning when you turn your defroster on will cause a crack to spread from side to side. A rock chip can be fixed, or stabilized enough so that it won't continue to spread, but if its in your line of sight or generally in an area that your wipers cover as they run then it may not be repairable either. Some insurance companies will pay for all or part of a rock chip repair rather than buy a new windshield in the future. Check with your insurance company, see if you have glass coverage and what their policy is on rock chip repairs and take it to a reputable repair shop to have it fixed.
My suggestion is that if there is a crack and you do have car insurance make sure you have glass coverage and just claim it. It would be the best decision in the long run, because the longer you wait the bigger the crack will get. Especially in the extreme hot or cold.
most glass repair shops will tell you if the chip is smaller than aquarter it can be fixed any bigger than that you will need a new windshielf. as to how long, you could go for a long time and then all of a sudden crack lines will start to appear
If the crack in the windshield is ANYWHERE in your line of sight as a driver, you WILL have to have the damage fixed or window replaced before you have your car INSPECTED.... Cars with chips, or cracks in the windshield that are about EYE LEVEL in the driver's side will NOT pass inspection ---it's an OBSTRUCTED VIEW.

Why is my car smoking after an oil change?

I just changed my oil over the weekend. I have done this before, but without any smoking. Car is a 2002 S-10 4x4. I went to the store yesterday and when I parked I noticed white smoke seeping out between the hood and the windshield. The smoke smells like burning rubber. I drove home from the store, and when I parked in my garage there was no smoke at all. But when I parked for work this morning there was a little bit of smoke again that only lasted a minute. Is this just oil that leaked when I was changing it? And if so, why does it smell like burning rubber?
Why is my car smoking after an oil change?
It probably is just oil that you might have spilled while putting it in you engine. You cant expect that to smell like strawberries. But the engine has to get hot enough to burn it off, so short drives might not make it smoke. If this continues much longer, get it checked out.
Why is my car smoking after an oil change?
If it's still going, you may have a leak. I would start by checking your oil level. Then go ahead and drive it, but when you are done pop the hood and look to see where the smoke is coming from. Look in the area that oil would fall to that spot and make sure everything is ok.

Oil filters sometimes just have a bad seal on them and you may need to replace that. Or you may have another, unrelated yet new leak. Or...you might have spilled some oil on the exhaust and it hasn't burned off yet. But always better to be safe and double check.

    Matt
That is most likely just some oil that spilled during the oil change and is burning up on the engine. It will stop. Nothing to worry about.
    bad oil seals !
I did this before too, only I was starting a long trip when it started to smoke. I called for help, and the guy said that I must have spilled some oil on the engine when I changed it, as nothing else seemed to be wrong with my car. I don't recall that it smelled like burning rubber, though.
One, rubber is made from petroleum sow oil burning will smell that way. You may have dripped a little on the manifold and it will burn off. But, open the hood and make sure the oil filler cap is tight and the dipstick is all the way in.

If it still happens, you may have a small leak starting in the valve cover gaskets.

Yeah, its jacked up, but all ANCO wiper blades have detailed instructions on how to install them. they are sold at almost all major parts stores.

The thermometer gauge in my car shows i am low on heat. What should I do if I run out of heat?

I try to take care of my vehicle. I always rotate the air in the tires when I am supposed to. I always put a new sticker on the windshield when it is time to change the oil sticker. And, I always add fresh air to the air filter.
The thermometer gauge in my car shows i am low on heat. What should I do if I run out of heat?
Your engine thermostat is small, so only a certain amount of heat can be packed into it. It is obvious that your thermostat has run out of heat. It needs to be replaced immediately. Also get the mechanic to put more heat into the temperature gauge. That should hold you for a while.

Also, you need to put more difference into the differential, and turn up the RF power on the transmission before they both get low.

Do you own a DeLorean? Don't forget to properly adjust the flux capacitor, or you could get into a lot of trouble!

The thermometer gauge in my car shows i am low on heat. What should I do if I run out of heat?
You need an O-Pipe exhaust...If you add backpressure, it will create heat...otherwise you'll need to get a new engine...Also, make sure you're not low on blinker fluid.
less heat is good, actually you need heat so the car computer can make the proper adjustments.

It sounds like your thermostat is stuck open.
If you run out of heat one of two things will happen your car will stop but more importantly you Will be dead .Both your body and the engine require heat to function.
    blow hard!!!
Have the Thermostat change before it gets any worst, the part is about hopefuly less than $20, the labor probably about $100-$150, so if you have some one you do it, it'll be alot cheaper, is not hard just drain out the radiator and the rest is easy................

    Good luck!
ok #1 you rotate the air in the tires wat???

#2 you cannot run out of heat

if your engine is running cool then you should replace the thermostat

and #3 you dont want to create back pressure on your engine not only will it rob you of horse power but it will also kill your gas milage
A recall was sent to all vehicle owners with your problem. You can see a copy of it here:

    Great and fantastic that you change the oil sticker! Did you also change the oil? When I put fresh air in my air filter it just leaks out and there I am-stuck with the same stale air I had.     %26quot;I always rotate the air in the tires when I am supposed to. I always put a new sticker on the windshield when it is time to change the oil sticker. And, I always add fresh air to the air filter. %26quot;

    Funniest thing I've seen in days. The people who think this is real and are trying to answer are even better. :%26gt; :%26gt; :%26gt;
You may need to check your headlight oil...most likely that is the problem.

    :-)
OMG! this happened to me last month! I lost all my heat and my exhaust fluid froze. That caused snow to come out the vents inside the car. You need to replace the fanbelt right away, it obviously has a hole in it which is making it too tight! I sometimes use my pantyhose for this in a pinch.

Keep up the good maintenance though, I keep forgetting about the oil sticker, and they keep stopping me for it! It burns me that you pay so much for oil and gas and then they stick you with a fine for being a day late! Grrr.

2002 Ford Explorer - How do I know if my antenna wire is cut?

My radio gets terrible, terrible, awful reception and I'm in a fairly large metro market. It used to work fine.

There is a little black squarish thing that sticks out a little bit from the roof line near the windshield, just above where oil change and tire places put their little reminder stickers. This is attached to a wire which... is attached to nothing!

Is that, by any chance, the wire that is supposed to connect my antenna to my radio? If so, do you know how in the world I would get it connected again? Would I have to have someone remove the whole ceiling of my car?
2002 Ford Explorer - How do I know if my antenna wire is cut?
That sounds like the optional cell phone antenna.

Sometimes removing the radio, pulling out he antenna and then putting it back in helps.

I have 96 Ford radio and something inside it just blew and now I don't get FM only AM. So maybe the factory radio just crapped out.
2002 Ford Explorer - How do I know if my antenna wire is cut?
Ask your mechanic. Probably takes about 30 seconds to check.
The antenna probably came unplugged from the back of the radio. I had a ford that did that all the time. Someone stuck their foot to far up the floor board and it pulled it out.
Is your antenna integrated in to the windshield? If it's not then I doubt this wire is to your radio. The antenna wire is often run from the front fender (If your antenna is located on the front) through the firewall and in to the back of the radio on the dash. If your antenna is located on the back it will run along the floor board. in to the back of the radio. I would have the dealership take a look at it and have them determine where the wire goes. As far as the radio issue it's probably become disconnected from the back of the radio. I would check there first.

yep, sweet smell is antifreeze. You will notice it more with the defrosters on, it will fog up the inside of the windsheild.

It needs the heater core replaced.

Is an FJR1300 too much bike for a long distance commuter?

I ride about 60 miles to work and my CBR600 is a little light during the spring and fall cross winds. I need something heavier and I am smitten with the FJR. I have had my current ride for a while and have not stayed up to date with all of the current offerings. I also like the look of the BMW R1150RT but wonder if the lower power would bore me since I am coming off of a sport bike. Is there something with decent wind protection that is comfortable enough to take the wife out of town every once in a while yet not as dificult to get your hands on as an FJR?

I live in central Texas and ride all year so I like the electric windshield due to the rapidly changing temperatures around here.
Is an FJR1300 too much bike for a long distance commuter?
the FJR is a much better bike for your use

keep in mind, you will have to duck in gusty winds
Is an FJR1300 too much bike for a long distance commuter?
Heck no! The FJR is a very comfortable bike for long distance rides. I know some people who have taken trips from here in Alabama all the way to California and said that they were comfortable, so for your purpose it should be ideal.

Car A/C is not blowing out of front vents, but works on feet & windshield defrost, how to fix?

Just yesterday, I started smelling a burnt plastic smell and then the a/c stopped blowing through the front vents of my a/c. It still works if I change it to blow at my feet or up on the windshield's defrost. What do I need to do to fix this? Is it expensive? Also, I have a 2001 Toyota Camry.
Car A/C is not blowing out of front vents, but works on feet %26amp; windshield defrost, how to fix?
That switch you use to change from the say top vents to the bottom is defective. You need to replace it, and you have to remove part of the facing on the dash to get at it.

That is what you smelled. It melted.
Car A/C is not blowing out of front vents, but works on feet %26amp; windshield defrost, how to fix?
You have a shot Blend Door Actuator. Auto parts stores carry these for some cars but not for all. You might have to go to the dealer to get one. Your favorite mechanic can do the install.
take it to your local dealer and you will probably need a blend door actuator or door. Id say about 100 for parts and upto 500 or so in labor

  • How to fix Buick Regal 2001 heater air-flow contol?

It clicks at the electric relay switch when I make a change in air-flow mode (windshield, floor, dash) but the air flow doesn't change directions. It just remains at partial flow at all vents. The fan and fan-speed control is working fine. Fuses are all good.
How to fix Buick Regal 2001 heater air-flow contol?
The relay that controls the airflow operates on vacuum from the engine. Check the relay under the passenger-side dashboard to make sure all the tubes are connected and unbroken. Trace the vacuum tube to make sure that it is okay, patch as needed. It will likely lead out of the firewall in the engine compartment on the passenger side, travel over the wheel well and down past the battery to where it crosses over to the engine where it is connected to the intake manifold.

You have a bad solenoid where the %26quot;flapper%26quot; is find were the directional flow control is and check the solenoid. You will have found the problem ....R

How long do synthetic oil changes last?

I just bought a 1994 BMW 740i and got a full synthetic oil change, the first time I've ever gotten one. The sticker the oil change place gave me for my windshield still says 3000 miles till the next change, but I've had alot of people tell me synthetic oil changes last longer.
How long do synthetic oil changes last?
A real PAO based sythetic oil CAN last 25,000 miles. Don't believe it? Try getting an oil analysis:

    http://www.blackstone-labs.com/

Even an off the counter oil like Mobil 1 has lasted up to 18,000 miles in a early 2000 Camaro V-8.

Amsoil is hands down the best though, and their filters are a big part of it.

    http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/default鈥?/a>

There is an application for every vehicle, and it gives you the capacities for all the fluids on every car.
How long do synthetic oil changes last?
I don't know what brand of oil, or your driving habits, but you should get 5000 to 7500 miles between oil changes depending on your driving habits. If and When you check your oil and your down 1 quart or liter, change your oil no matter the mileage. good luck
It depends on the oil. They vary between 3 5 or 7 thousand miles. If the sticker says 3,000 you should get it changed then.
it does last a lot longer that's the reason for using synthetic oil in the first place,i run mine around 8 thousand before i change it,you can go anywhere from 5-8 thousand and not hurt a thing that oil was designed to do that with,if you don't feel comfortable with running it that high, change it at 5 thousand, either way it will be fine, good luck with it.
Well, you don't change oil because it's worn out. You change it because it's contaminated with gas, acids, and moisture, so even though synthetic oil IS more durable, it gets contaminated just as quickly as petro oil, making those oil changes very expensive.

Consumer reports Magazine did extensive testing of synthetics and petro oil and found %26quot;no significant reduction in wear of the internal parts%26quot; of the engines running synthetic oil.

If you change oil every 3K-4K and use quality petro oil, you get very little benefit from switching to synthetic.

Of course, the boys that SELL synthetic will try to make you believe you can run 25K miles on synthetics, but I don't buy it.

The people YOU went to want you back as soon as possible, don't they?
I'm no expert but considering that my friend bought a brand new bmw in 2005 and the computer on the car said the oil change wouold take place after 35,000miles, i thought wow.

as others have said it depends on driving conditions, etc, but i believe you can get a lot of mileage out of it.

I was told though that it was best used in new cars. I was told that older cars could actually develop issues using the newer synthetic oil. don't take my word foir it though.
If you car usually gets 3K on an oil change, synthetic can go 5K. They should have set your reminder sticker 5K, but the computers are set to use 3K by default. It was either an oversight or in the case of some less honest shops, it could have been deliberate. Synthetic is not just a sales ploy. Synthetic is a more robust oil and it does take longer to %26quot;break down%26quot; or become contaminated because conventional oil already has contaminants in it. Syntheitc oil has none. Conventional oil is pumped up from the ground and has to be refined to remove all the unwanted materials. Base conventional oil is about 99% oil, 1% impurities. Synthetic base oil is the same thing as conventional oil, except its 100% pure.
no it does not and once you use full syn you cant change to any other oil

Ford windshield wash sprayer doesnt work?

I took my ford contour in early march to get an oil change. When I was done he said oh and the windshield wash sprayer wires are not right, which I knew because they only shot halfway which was frustrating. So since I got used to never using them I thought well Ill take it in when I go home again. Yesterday it rained and I thought well I will get some rainx windshield washer fluid. I put it in and nothing came out. I thought maybe since it was raining that maybe for some reason I couldnt see it. Well after a few tries nothing and this morning I tried it and then I opened the hood and looked. No fluid left. Just a little at the bottom.

I don't know how quickly it takes for it to be empty but also I dont know why there is none shooting out. Could there be a reason for this?

Also for a 98 ford is there an estimate on the cost to get this fixed and how long it would take them?
Ford windshield wash sprayer doesnt work?
It sounds like the hose came off somewhere. Push the button to spray, see where it's coming out. Then look on the bottom side of the hood, you should see some black plastic tubing(it may be another color, black is the most common) going to the spray nozzles. follow it away from the nozzles. When you get to the end, connect it with the hose the fluid was coming out of when you sprayed it. If you don't see fluid coming out then there is probably a problem with the pump, fuse, switch, etc (unless the tank is empty). Hope this helps.
Ford windshield wash sprayer doesnt work?
one of the pipes may be disconnected!?other than that your pumps probably gone!
Well, if the fluid is out that could be your problem! However, if you fill it and it still does not spray you may need a new washer pump. I dont know what model your 98 ford is, so prices will vary. Be more specific and I will be able to give you a price.

Should I pay this much for my transmission or go somewhere else?

Hi, My name is Aaron. I have a 1994 Buick Regal with just about 73,000 miles on it. I bought it from an older couple for $3,200. I have owned it for about a year now and hasn't had any major problems.

Last 2 months ago, I just put a brand new cooling system, water pump, oil change, and windshield wiper blades for about $350. I go to a shop called %26quot;Jiffy Oil%26quot; which they know my car backwards and forwards and also give me discounts (They know my mom).

Anyways, my car started making noise so I took it to them. They knew it was my transmission, but have no skills into repairing it. They told me to go down to the transmission place next to Dairy Queen and tell them Jiffy Oil sent you and it was Mark. I said Ok and took my car down there.

The guy there at the transmissions place got in my car listened to the noise and opened the hood. He showed me exactly what the problem was. It had chunks of metal everywhere..I had no idea how it happened. He said it would run me about $1,100 to repair it as if it were brand new and would give me 12 months free repair with insurance as well. I told him I'd think about it and take my car some other places first. I went to three other places I knew. The first one said $1,600 and would be $200 extra for insurance for only 6 months. The second one said $6,800. They told me it was totally damaged, never seen anything like it before. And the third one said $9,200..they said pretty much the same thing as the second. Both did not include insurance. My dad said that is outrageous for such prices and doesn't know what to do either. My cousin, which is a Diesel/Automotive Machanic, said that the first one was a good deal and I should go with it, because my car would only sell for $500 if I wanted to sell it. Please help! Thanks everyone.
Should I pay this much for my transmission or go somewhere else?
The $1100 is definitely a good deal.
Should I pay this much for my transmission or go somewhere else?
ac_johns71014, I had similar problems last week and was glad I got my repairs covered under my extended warranty. They are less expensive if you don't buy them from the manufacturer. http://www.autoadviceonline.com/Warranty-Quote.html
$1,000 is,nt bad for all that work. i believe i would go with that. the reason the chunks were there was they never kept the fluid and filter changed.
I would go with $1100. Why not just get a rebuilt one and exchange it. Look into that instead of going for repairs.
$1,100 is definitely a good price. Especially with the economy the way it is you're lucky to find anyone that will fix the car for under $2000. It depends on how much you love your car though if you feel you'd rather sell it then do it.

  • I had a fight with my man today, what should I do? help me PLZ!?

We have a baby. 1 year ago somebody broke into his civic and they broke the back window. I was 5 months pregnant back then. He said he was gonna replace the window before our baby was born. He never did. NOw our baby is 7 months old and 1 weeks ago he finally got his toyota supra back from the shop and first thing he's going to do with it is change the windshield which is only cracked. He's not driving it at all. And now it's really cold and we have to cover the baby with a lot of blankets every time we go out. She got a cold 3 weeks ago. We had a big fight he made me cry and he doesn't understand. He left to work. I don't know what to do. He always wants to do whatever he likes. Idk if I should stay mad at him until he fixes the window or get up tonight to feed him ike nothing happen help me please!
I had a fight with my man today, what should I do? help me PLZ!?
his priorities aren't straight. and you are in a really tough situation, where you are seeing your baby get sick. make him dinner and ask him straight up, %26quot;the baby is really cold in the back seat, and she will get sick if the back window doesnt get replaced, can you get that window instead of the windshield? YOU NEED TO ASK HIM THIS directly no beating around the bush otherwise he can avoid answering the questions, give him a yes or no question. I will pray for you. if you dont feel safe with him go somewhere where you will be safe. Good luck.
I had a fight with my man today, what should I do? help me PLZ!?
you should take it to the shop to fix it, he probably doesnt have time. or maby he does and he puts it off because he is to busy focusing on you
leave it at what it is and take his supra, and then he will understand when he takes the civic. But honestly I think that you guys shouldn't have a baby if you can't take care of yourselves first.
sounds like you had a baby with some guy that didn't care about either one of you. i suggest you leave him. can you get a car of your own?
You need to be stubborn. He needs to know that your baby needs to come first, no matter what. And he can't just do whatever he wants if that will jeopardise the health and well being of that baby.
Beg his pardon or try some else
Baby's already had a cold and you have to wonder what to do? Come on.....

    I feel for that kid.
You shouldn't pretend that nothing happened because something did happen that's why you are affected. But it's also not healthy for you to continue to be mad at him because it will only make matters worse. Try to tell him honestly about how you feel about the things that he did in a calm manner (not in an angry tone). Discuss your issues together. If this doesn't work, try to ask help from someone your man listens to. I hope you will be able to resolve your issue soon. Happy new year!
Out of sight - out of mind.

Use his supra and let him get sick.

Sounds like He's working and your not, I bet he's used the phrase that he pays the bills around here.

My man knows that if he's not going to do something, I'm going to deal with it myself and it usually isn't in his favor, especially when it comes to an innocent child. I suggest that if crying isn't working for you, don't use it. For some, it shows vulnerability. Grow some balls. The next time he says he is going to do something, keep reminding him. Write it on the calendar, and if he's bullS%$ing you, take it upon yourself. Thinks aren't going to change unless it has to
Grow up %26amp; move on. He obviously doesn't care.

How does it work if I buy an European car from the US and import it to Europe?

I know that when someone who lives in Europe buys a car from America, the car is not approved buy the European Union according to legislations of 6/1995 and 6/1999 and thus the buyer has to pay ridiculous taxes for the car and custom-change: the windshield, all lights and much more. UNLESS the car is taken into use before June 1995. This applies for all AMERICAN cars.

But how does it work if I would buy a car that is normally manufactured in Europe, i.e. a Lamborghini from 2008, and I would buy it from the US, do all the same principles apply for this scenario?

Hope you understand what I'm searching after here.

    Simplified:

European buys American car from America -%26gt; HUGE taxes and expensive customizing

    But if:

European buys European car from America, how does it work?
How does it work if I buy an European car from the US and import it to Europe?
If its the exact same car and model as the one in Europe, I don't think you need to modify it.I also think that you have to wait a period of time after buying it befre you can ship it, you should ask.

Democrats & Republicans are like Night & Day! Does anyone believe that life experiences teach us things?

That when something is studied or you are around something day after day, you pick up on patterns that may not be obvious at first? I work at a State Motor Vehicle Inspection facility, we do Safety Inspections, Emission Testing %26amp; Windshield Repair(chips and cracks, free with full coverage ins.) Differences between Liberal Democrats and Conservative Republicans are immense! We have a unique operation with a long driveway, customers wait in line until waved up. Things I notice about Liberals/Democrats:

Dirty car, evidence of smoking/drinking, vehicle not maintained, usually reading a book, bad/care free attitudes, more likely to fail inspection, especially emissions(check engine light is on and they haven't fixed it, I thought they were all about the environment!), they think that we are supposed to change their windshield for free with only liability insurance(and it's all busted up), sometimes get angry and threaten violence when they vehicle fails inspection.

    Things I notice about Conservatives/Republicans

Clean car, well maintained, friendly and usually leave a tip(Libs and Dems rarely do), usually pass inspection.

Before anyone says how do I know who's who...Very easy! Libs and Dems have Obama bumper stickers %26amp; T-shirts, they are listening to NPR on the radio, they have tatoo's and piercings, they are usually NOT working, rarely talk politics...

Cons and Reps have NRA stickers, are listening to our conservative AM station that plays RUSH and openly talk politics and their disdain for Obama.

I know this is not a 100% way to tell, but it's close and tells everything about the character and who is more important to this once great land...
Democrats %26amp; Republicans are like Night %26amp; Day! Does anyone believe that life experiences teach us things?
Awesome post. When I see questions like this I wish there was some way to thumbs-up the asker.
Democrats %26amp; Republicans are like Night %26amp; Day! Does anyone believe that life experiences teach us things?
Do you have to question their political standings before inspecting their cars?

You have no clue to anyone's political standing.
This is very true, and it is very important that people understand who we are dealing with in the leadership of this country.
It would appear that Cons have more $. btw isn't it against the law to %26quot;tip%26quot; state officials. I believe it is often called a bribe. Be vewy vewy careful here.
Okay, this is just stupid stereotyping. I fought the emissions regulations when they came to Tennessee. They are garbage. Just another way for the state to take our money.

I drive a 2002 Subaru which was emissions exempt in Colorado when I bought it. It has a check engine light perpetually on because what the idiot light wants me to fix isn't broken. I failed my last emissions test because the machine didn't like my gas cap, so I had to go buy a new one. My car is filthy, because I park it under trees and don't waste the water to wash it. It's a public bird restroom.

    I'm a conservative.
do you really ask everyone if they are a liberal or a conservative -- come to nor cal and see your stereo types thrown out the widow
Most people reading this know your claim to recognize libs or cons on sight is absurd.

Funny, yet another %26quot;renegade%26quot; Republican working as a career bureaucrat sucking on the sugar tit.

    Yak all you want, you still have to look in the mirror and say %26quot;I'm a parasitic Bureaucrat!%26quot;
...gee thanks random internet poster without facts or strong arguments to add credibility to your ranting...you have so convinced me to change my thinking...
I can tell you that I would actually prefer to have public transportation, biking, and walking as suitable options for local travel. Anytime I can walk then that is what I do.

I'm a liberal democrat but I'm also an independent. I try to stay aware of the hypocrisy. I can't stand %26quot;holier than thou%26quot; attitudes and yes, we can all show them.

I never thought to tip for an inspection. I've never even heard it being done before. I don't trust auto places b/c of my experience. I have friends in the business that help and guide me. I've been learning more. It's hard b/c that kind of stuff puts me to sleep. I'm more academic than I am hands on.

My experience - it's been probably about 50/50 when it comes to a work ethic. I do think that liberals tend to be snobbier when it comes to what work they will do but some cons are that way too. I'm of the mindset - if it needs to be done and I can do it then I'm going to do it.

Actions tell what a person values. The more aware you are then the more you can change. I've been making changes. I've been committed to being more self aware. It's hard at first but I am finding it easier and so rewarding. It's freeing. I feel like I'm becoming more intelligent.

What we say - what we do - we may assume that they coincide but they don't. It's only until you are aware that you realize that you need to make some changes or accept the hypocrisy. I can't accept the hypocrisy so I seek to change. It's work. But it feels good. I think that is true of work.

A lot of liberals/dems do work but they are artists, writers, etc. You wouldn't necessarily see them working. They probably work odd hours esp if they do free lance stuff.

Liberals/Dems are more free spirits. They work. They are always thinking. I'm in MA. I think the cons are more likely to be lazy and find creative ways of not working but even that is only partially true for some. There are other reasons why that is.
    Very good and very true!
Sounds like you know these Libs too good.

I need honesty:: How much would you pay for a car like this?

1998 Honda Civic Lx 4dr Sedan.

    Automatic.

New engine. 133k(without being reset) -%26gt;(but honestly the milage is sorta unknown because they never reset the miles when they put in the new engine. But Im hoping to find out before I sell it)

    Tires only a year old.

Less than a year old subs included.

Radio Faceplate included (removeable w/ remote control)

    New rear speakers.

Newer paint job (from a crappy place)

Has been in 1 accident; which was me sitting in a drive thru %26amp; the guy decided to back up. only messed up hood, grill %26amp;%26amp; a little of front bumper. Everything is fixed like new.

Seats %26amp;%26amp; carpet in GREAT condition.

    New belts.

    Fresh oil change.

New windshield wiper motor %26amp;%26amp; blades.

Nice, dark tint, except front windshield

What do you think would be a good price for this car?
I need honesty:: How much would you pay for a car like this?
Where I live, if it has a current and valid state inspection sticker, it could list for 1200 to 1800.

Without the sticker, 800 to 1200.

Will you accept payment in acorns?
I'll swap you a wheel barrow full of horse testicles for it.

A 98 Honda needing a new engine is a good sign that Honda can't make engines.

Not worth a penny over $1,000.

oooooooooops I just read about the damage.

    Offer $300 tops for it.
    $1,563

What you should do... Go on Autotrader.com.... look and see how much ppl are selling that car for, (same year) and go buy that!!! It should help : )
    Hi,

Awesome car Dude $ 2,694 or $3,800. Wont you try an account with ebay price the car. So people can bet on your car watch the money roll. Or go to your local car dealerships they can help you with the price of the car..

Should this inspection law be enforced...? Please read on?

OK, back in November I bought a used car and took it in for an inspection. They inspected the car and i fixed everything needed to pass the inspection. 2 days ago I changed the windshield on the car and the people at the glass place could not mount the inspection stickers back on the windshield so told me to get new stickers at the place where I got my last inspection. I go there today and the guy tells me that he cannot issue me new stickers because the odometer is not working. Apparently the miles are the same as they have when I checked in the vehicle in Nov for inspection. I asked the guy whether they had checked the odometer in november when it passed inspection and he answered %26quot;technically yes!%26quot; Now they will not issue me new stickers because the odometer is still showing the milage that it was registered with 3 months ago. What should I do? Is this grounds for suing? I mean if they haven't checked my odometer, what else is my car left unchecked? Thank you
Should this inspection law be enforced...? Please read on?
    Good luck proving it.

You can sue anyone you want. Its providing evidence that wins your case that is the hard part. They'll say it was working fine and unless you have some overwhelming proof it wasn't, you have no case.

Take it to another garage and have it inspected, maybe they won't notice or simply fix it.
Should this inspection law be enforced...? Please read on?
Are they legally required to verify the speedometer/odometer operation? If so, you have them over a barrel since they obviously did not. %26quot;Technically yes%26quot; doesn't mean squat.

  • Windshield wipers turning on without warning especially when it's warm? I drive a 2005 Nissan Maxima. Help?

    2005 Maxima

Sometimes windshield wipers turn on and it happens a lot more in warm weather. Everything else in the electrical system seems to be working find. The dealer wants to change something called IPDM and charge several hundred dollars which I am not ready to do. Any other ideas?
Windshield wipers turning on without warning especially when it's warm? I drive a 2005 Nissan Maxima. Help?
Let me check that circuit. Yes I would have to agree with your dealer. The IPDM is located on the right side of the motor compartment under that plastic cover and another plastic lid with the fuse designations on the side.. When the wipers are running wild with rap on the IPDM with a Screwdriver Handle. Nissan Shop Manual I looked at it appears that the switch inside just talks to a CPU inside the IPDM and that device turns on wipers washers with relays for each speed. IPDM powers lots of other remotely operated electrical devices. IPDM is retangle shaped 1 1/4 inch thick with about 20 fuses and 15 black relays and 6 power wire sockets with lots of wires each. IPDM has two catches on each side and pull straight up. Get one out of a wrecked car but you must know that the trim level on the wreck is the same SL to SL SE to SE and LE TO LE. Things like cornering lamps HID headlights auto sunroof ECT. Different on different trim level cars. Good Luck
Windshield wipers turning on without warning especially when it's warm? I drive a 2005 Nissan Maxima. Help?
Just either unplug the sensor that tells the wipers when to come on or try to see if you can remove the fuse for it.

Was I screwed by the repair shop?

I recently changed my windshield wipers (first time I’ve tried to do so), and in the process of struggling I messed up the driver’s side arm. It was loosened up and when I turned on the wipers it would hesitate at the apex and then shoot back down to catch up with the passenger side arm. After a while the driver’s side arm started going all the way to the end of the windshield before going back down.

I brought it in to the dealership where I bought the car and had them look at it. They said the motor needed to be replaced and I didn’t think much of it because I don’t know a whole lot about cars. However, now that I think about it, wouldn’t the faulty motor affect both windshield wipers? Second, wouldn’t a problem with the motor be more of a “wear and tear” issue over time rather than something caused by an incident like that? I’m thinking of complaining but wanted to get the opinion of some experts to see if I actually have a case to make. Thanks in advance.
Was I screwed by the repair shop?
It would have been interesting to here what brand year and model of car you have. Sense one wiper was working I would think the wiper motor would have been fine. It think the real problem was a loose fulcrum point at the bottom of the wiper arm or a messed up linkage problem. To make yourself feel better go back to the dealership and request the old wiper motor back. If they can't come up with it I'd say: You were taken advantage of by some wanton woman.
Was I screwed by the repair shop?
    Too late now.
    yes, you were screwed
sounds to me like the wiper gearbox for that particular wiper is at fault, not the motor at all.

The wiper gearbox is just under the wiper arm and when they strip inside, teh wiper does exactly what you describe. if the other wiper is working the motor is fine and they are screwing you
    definetly screwed
before u do u have he old part if not I always tell people to ask for there old parts if they were replaced for no reason u have the part to verify before u should ask is this was a preventative type repair
you are always entitled to a second opinion, have them give you in writing what they found in their diagnosis, cause and correction, then take it to another repair station don't mention that you had it some were else and see what they come up with, the only thing that i can think of is that maybe the nut that holds your wiper arm may have come loose or something in the wiper linkage may have become tweaked.
Yes, they got to you. I'd still turn them into the better business bereau.
Too late to do anything now.
yes they screwed you, as long as the motor was working there was nothing wrong with it, all you needed at the most was a new arm on the side you screwed up.

How much would a Buick 1963 Special cost?

I have a Buick 63' Special. It needs a quick tune-up and a new windshield, but my dad can fix that and he has an extra original windshield. So other than that it runs pretty good. BUT, it would need a new paint job and and inside repair. Me and my father only paid $200 for it and we were going to fix it up so I can have a car but we thought it would be best if we just did the tune-up, change the windshield and sell it so I can use that money just to buy a nice used car. I would like to know though how much would it be worth knowing that it needs a paint job and inside repair (new seats, floor, ceiling and dashboard)? I know it is going to quite pricey for the paint job and inside repair so that's why I want to know the best estimate on what I should sell it for. My mother wants to sell it for 2G but I know that is way to much for a car that needs some work on it.
How much would a Buick 1963 Special cost?
No, I would ask AT LEAST 2 grand for it, especially if it's rust free. But I'd just fix it and drive it, myself.
How much would a Buick 1963 Special cost?
2010 - 1963 = 47 years old: Can be considered a classic. Your best best would be go on internet to classic cars and check prices: Not set prices on classic cars. Depends on collectors who collect that particular car.

    .

Also get on the internet and look for classic car clubs as well.

    .

You'll get a much better price going that route than selling as a used car:

How do I keep my car's windshield grease/oil free ?

my car's windshield seems to have a thin film of something on it so when it rains at night and I put on the wipers I can hardly see as the wipers seem to spread the film more. I use windscreen cleaning solution and all kinds of glass cleaners and nothing has worked. Even changed the wiper blades twice over 6 months.
How do I keep my car's windshield grease/oil free ?
i own a repair shop, and try cleaning it real good ,and use some rain-x on it,,this stuff really works good ,and it last for a while too,but it will help keep a lot those things from sticking to it,,good luck,i hope this help,s,,and happy thanksgiving.
How do I keep my car's windshield grease/oil free ?
t_man.. I have exactly the same problem on my windshield. The layer spreads and kills visibility before it sublimes on rainy nights. I have tried everything you had tried before you found the right solution. Can you please tell me what you did?

use a grease remover(like %26quot;simple green%26quot;) and then glass cleaner... also if it is an older car go visit your local Napa Store and try %26quot;innovision%26quot; wiper blades. They are awesome. Some older cars wiper arms loose tension and so the innovisions are designed to make tighter contact with windshield....
It might be your washer fluid that is the issue. My dad used a can of Coca Cola after visiting the beach to remove the film!

Anyway, I use a mixture of dishsoap and alcohol, which is used in eye glass cleaner. Most all commercial products use alcohol in their products as well. At the very least, clean your glass with straight alcohol to break down the film and then use Rain X which does indeed work well and for a long period of time.

    Good luck.
yeah, Rain-X is magical stuff. God bless the inventor of it. One time, my windshield wiper motor stopped working so I couldn't use the wipers. I went and bought Rain-X and wiped it on kind of heavy. After that, I didn't even need to repair the wiper motor, the Rain-X was that good. Though, I must say I don't recommend/endorse you to do the same thing. Maybe I was just lucky....I think so. I only did it because I didn't have the time or money to repair the motor.

  • How do you turn on the speed sensitive wipers in a Cobalt?

My parents bought me a cobalt a few days ago, I've heard they have speed sensitive wipers that change the speed of the windshield wipers depending on how fast you go. How do you set it to that setting to do so?

    THanks.
How do you turn on the speed sensitive wipers in a Cobalt?
There is no option for speed sensitive wiper system for the cobalt. There is a option for rain sensitive wipers on some of the newer model chevy trucks that turn on the wipers when the sensor on the windshield senses moisture. Most of the newer cars and trucks also have a option for speed compensated volume which has three settings to make the radio get louder the faster you drive. Most people find this option a waste of time.Best of luck with your cobalt.

Rear windshield breaking due to me using heat?

so its a pretty cold night in washington..id say 40 degrees or so. i used the rear defrost so i could see out of my window.

and then i park my car. visit someone. get into my car, notice a football sized hole in the bottom right of my window. i brake the car to inspect. as i brake, the whole windshield just caves in. hundreds of tiny pieces.

could this be due to temperature change, or did someone vandalize?

Rear windshield breaking due to me using heat?
Someone vandalized your car, and broke the window.

Whatever car you have, 40 degrees is not too cold for the glass and the electric warming elements enclosed in the plastic layer of the safety glass.

A car the same as your car is probably driving around northern Quebec at this moment. Temperature minus 20 !

Hundreds of tiny pieces of glass, all with a rounded edge, are part of a safety design that prevents damage to the occupants in case of a crash.

Car glass is 3 layers, with a plastic one in the middle.
Rear windshield breaking due to me using heat?
You have been vandalized my friend. I have actually used warm water on my glass, very carefully mind you and never broken one. I have on many occasion's when I was very poor and couldn't afford a decent ride and had cars with bad heating and defrosting systems used the old warm water trick. I just went very slowly and only allowed a very small amount at a time to hit the window I generally started at the top and allowed the water to run slowly down the glass. It would also be cooling off as it run down. I sure as hello don`t recommend any one doing this. I was desperate at the time with a bad car and a job I couldn't`t afford to loose. But, the point i`m making is that there is no way you could have damaged your glass by just using what ever means of defrost your car has. A passing vehicle could have thrown a rock from its tires and hit your glass. Or if you were in a bad neighbor hood a BB from a BB gun could have also been the culprit.
The first answer is correct except for the detail that the rear and side windows are tempered and break into small pieces and have no lamination of plastic, while the front window does have the plastic layer in an attempt to keep you in the car and can not be tempered.
I suppose there's always a possibility of a manufacturer's defect, but that sounds like vandalism.

I live up north where it can get to -15 (and even lower!) with the wind chill, and my car's windows have never broken!

    I recommend contacting the police.
I live in a place in Canada that gets WAY colder than that. Car windows are built to resist temperature changes as long as their isn't a crack in them already.

I have a 2006 Suzuki Forenza..The winshield wipers dont work (and neither does the windshield wiper fluid)..?

it has a recent paint job, all gauges work perfectly, am/fm radio with cassette player, original %26quot;rims%26quot; recent tire change, the windshield is a little cracked.. how much do you think i should price it for
    Price a ((CLASSIC))1972 Ford Torino 500....?
We need more information like 2 or 4 door, engine and transmission type and size. Overall condition, recent work done etc. Without knowing, it's anybody's guess.
    Price a ((CLASSIC))1972 Ford Torino 500....?
The only thing I can suggest is to either take it to a couple of car dealerships just to see what they would give on a trade in. If you decided to do this I would strongly suggest that you have the car super clean because that helps alot more than people think. You can also check ebay, they have a couple of 72 Torino's selling on there right now for $6,500.00 US.
What engine, does numbers match, has it been wrecked, what condition? If all were like new and had a 351 windsor engine with posi then maybe 12-15000 if any imperfections like numbers do not match, salvage title ect then has not much collector value.
go to a few car yards and see what they will pay for it and go from there
It's a Torino, it won't be worth more than ten grand no matter how good of shape its in. Not trying to be mean, but there just isn't a good market for them.
you need to keep it. it is a collectors item i wouldn't get rid of it you do need to replace the windshield .and another thing you do need to list the size of the engine and trans mission .please don't take to a junk yard or a salvage yard.

A bottle of Windshield Wiper Fluid was left in my car's back seat and burst from the heat. How do I clean it??

I bought a bottle of windshield wiper fluid when I got my car to get the battery changed. However, I was stupid enough to forget about the fluid in my back seat and the whole bottle burst the next day because the car was out in the sun the entire day. all the fluid got on my floor mats and the rug on the back seat. Everything dried and the entire car smells like alcohol every time I get in. Also, the back rug/mat turned blue. I'm wondering if anyone knows how to get the blue off from the mat and the floor? This is very embarrassing and I feel very stupid for forgetting the bottle in the back seat.

    Thanks!
A bottle of Windshield Wiper Fluid was left in my car's back seat and burst from the heat. How do I clean it??
you can take and shampoo all of this and that should get the majority of it out,it might be permanently stained though on somethings ,usually when alcohol sets a stain in like that, its sort of hard to get out,id try a real good shampoo first though, and hopefully all of it will come out, don't feel bad though i had a can of starting fluid blow up in one of my vehicles,it sounded like the car blew up when it went off and it was sitting in plain site too,it only got up to 98 degrees out side that day ,but way hotter in the car, good luck with it hope this helps.
A bottle of Windshield Wiper Fluid was left in my car's back seat and burst from the heat. How do I clean it??
You don't give enough information but here is a rule of thumb. Take the affected mats out, let them air dry, do the same with the car, open the doors and let it air out for a while. At least a day, try using a solution of a bit of Dawn Dishwashing detergent and some water, wash the area thouroughly and allow to dry. Once that is done spray some fabreeze on all the upholstery. It should make everything look like new.
Milo You should have kept it all in the trunk ,would you keep gasoline in the rear seating area? Dude like we all say got a clue? Why do vehicles all have trunks in them? The bottom line is you should keep all fluids in the garage and not in the car and the only things to keep in a trunk is the spare tire a set of jumper cables and emergency items like flares in case of any breakdowns. My oh my people just never learn from any of us do they ? Well my man you'll learn someday from all of this won't you?.....

  • I have a 1995 infiniti g20 and i have had the motor replaced on the windshield wipers but they keep going out?

what can i do to get them to work again. can i go under the hood myself and do something or is it something that i need to get looked at? i mean, i already have had the motor changed, i dont want to get robbed again by the body shop. PLEASE HELP!!!!! there is no noise or movement.
I have a 1995 infiniti g20 and i have had the motor replaced on the windshield wipers but they keep going out?
Check wiper links. They may have been damaged by ice/snow. Common problem. I work at Infiniti parts and we sell them often.

28841-59J00 AND 28842-50J00 are the part numbers. You may be able to get them thru Nissan.
I have a 1995 infiniti g20 and i have had the motor replaced on the windshield wipers but they keep going out?
You should be able to see the motor under the hood on the passengers side and with the key on and the wiper switch on as well just tap the motor assembly and see if it will start and if so then either the motor is bad or you have a wiring problem......good luck.

Put windshield wiper fluid in antifreeze reservoir, will it do damage?

While in a rush to get out, I put the fluid in the wrong place. The car has not overheated but I have smelled the fluid evaporating. There is no difference in engine temperature or running condition. Its a 2002 civic LX with the non vtec motor. Can I leave it in to evaporate or should I change the fluid?
Put windshield wiper fluid in antifreeze reservoir, will it do damage?
Change the fluid. What's that gonna run you? About $6? I'd rather spend the $6 change the fluid and know that everything's okay than leave it in there do some irrepairable damage and have to buy a new car.

Windshield wiper fluid is heavily alcohol based. It evaporates quickly so that it doesn't leave streaks.

Anti-freeze is polyethylene glycol. It's designed to keep your engine cool. It stays consistently the same viscosity no matter what the temperature is. Either way, it's a bad idea to be trying to cool your engine with alcohol.

    CHANGE IT.
Put windshield wiper fluid in antifreeze reservoir, will it do damage?
The only thing you might notice is that there will be a foam build-up in the resevoir from the wiper fluid cleaner, but other than that, it will be ok.
Depends on how much you put in. but it shouldn't be a problem. Have the coolant concentration checked to make sure that it won't freeze and adjust as neccesary.
unless your car has a coolant leak it will not evaporate as cooling systems are considered sealed, unless they have leaks. you need to flush your coolant, probably a few times. the cheapest way to do this is to drain and fill with DISTILLED water 2 or 3 times. and afterward, refill with the proper coolant. washer fluid is not compatible with coolant and will cause rusting of the radiator and engine block.
You should remove the wiper fluid from the resevoir. Unbolt the resevoir and clean it out if you have to. Then only put 50/50 premix antifreeze into it. Do you wish to risk harming your vehicle for this ?
Flush the cooling system. Washer fluid can have some pretty strong cleaners that your seals and gaskets might not take too well to.
Good time to flush the system, re-fill it 50/50 and if thermostat is original change it too. It won't harm anything if only a little was added.

How to take windshield wipers off a 96 WIndstar?

How to take windshield wipers off a 96 WIndstar?
B, the wiper arms can be removed by taking off nut and about 6 or 8 inches up the arm push down towards the wind shield then remove. Mark left and right to reinstall. Good Luck TW

My car stereo keeps spitting CD's out that it used to play perfectly. What could be the problem?

All of my CD's are in good condition without major scratches, ect. and they used to play flawlessly. Now the car stereo will read %26quot;Err%26quot; and spit the CD out. This has happened for about 5 days.

I have to bring my car in soon for an oil change/tire rotation/new windshield wipers - if there is a problem, would the mechanic be able to look at that as well?
My car stereo keeps spitting CD's out that it used to play perfectly. What could be the problem?
Sounds to me like your lens inside your stereo is dirty. You can try buying a cleaning kit, it is just a cd with some brushes on it. If it is still under warranty you could send it in and have it cleaned. It doesn't sound like any wiring issue so i don't think your mechanic will be able to do anything with it.

Scratch on a windshield of my truck from a wiper?

What can i use on my winshield to take a faint scratch off of it? i bought a truck and it has a scratch on the windshield from a old wiper, someone must of been to lazy to change it .....lol someone said toothpaste, anything else u know of
Scratch on a windshield of my truck from a wiper?
A very fine polishing compound will get it out, but be very careful. Try it first in a spot that is not in your normal sight path. Rub very lightly. Hope this helps

PS. I have heard of using toothpaste before, but have never tried it. Might be worth a try.
Scratch on a windshield of my truck from a wiper?
Any time you file an insurance claim for a loss that took place when the policy was not in force, you are committing insurance fraud, a $30 billion dollar per year problem in the United States.

Most insurance companies do not cover scratches in any case, as this is considered normal wear and tear, similar to your tires wearing out.

Regardless, a scratched windshield usually must be replaced, but your local auto glass shop can give you an assessment as to whether the scratch can be buffed.
I know of only one way to eliminate a scratch. Get a new one. If you have windshield replacement on your insurance , use the insurance If you don't have it call your insurance company. It only cost@ average $2.00 a month to add it even if you only have minimum liability

  • My windshield wipers do not touch the windshield in all places especially at high speeds. What could it be?

I have a 2001 Chevy Malibu LS. I have changed the wiper blades several times with no positive results, so it is not the blades. I have cleaned the windshield, so there is nothing on it (ie. wax). The spot on the windshield that is missed is right where I need to look through and it is very dangerous driving this way. I do a lot of freeway driving. Any ideas on what could be the trouble?
My windshield wipers do not touch the windshield in all places especially at high speeds. What could it be?
try taking it to a mechanic.
My windshield wipers do not touch the windshield in all places especially at high speeds. What could it be?
You need new wiper arms..the springs in the ones you have are weak !!
the spring in the wipers are getting weak/ wore out/ and the wind is pushing the blades up off the glass.try buying new wiper arms.
Wiper arm springs are week or airflow is lifting wipers from window. Replace the wiper arms or purchase and install an air dam across lower part of winshield. This will help to deflect wind from the wipers and also a a custom look to your car. Can be purchased at most auto parts stores.
So the wiper come off the windshield when driving fast not with the wipes on high speed right?? If this is the case try bending the wiper arm slightly. Grab the wiper in the spot where it go to a flat bar.Gently push the tip of the arm not the blade inwards the windshield. Go slow it may take a couple of tries. If this fails to correct the problem you may need new wiper arms. The spring under the arm looses tension and lets the wipers float on the air flowing over the hood. Some people have had used a bug shield on the front of the hood to alter the air flow too. Last you could try the wiper with the air foils on them but must of the time they end up just being for show. Good luck hope I helped

    WIP

    602240 $13.49

    Wiper Blade - Teflon - Passenger's Side

    WIP

    601940 $12.49

if it's the arms you'll probably have to go to a dealer.

by the way how fast are you going? not much will stick to a windsheild aft 80-85 mph unless it has aerfoils on it to make it press against the surface.
If you have the appropriate blades the only other thing is the wiper arms. Not cheap..The springs that hold tension on the arms get tired.. Easy replacement, you can do it..If you live near Marlborough, Ma. stop in to Car Quest and ask Rob to put them on for you.Tell him Buzz sent you..No charge..accommodating kid of a guy...

VOID inspection sticker in New York - Ticket or Tow?

My car was impounded due to my inspection sticker showing as VOID. Apparently my sticker was voided a month and half prior to the tow when my windshield was changed, and the service provider did not bother to tell me he had voided the sticker. Is a voided sticker means for the city to tow and impound your vehicle, or does this normally require a ticket?

My 1996 Dodge Dakota is is not heating up enough to defrost the windshield.?

So far we have changed the thermostat and checked to make sure the engine temp is ok and it is warm. When I check the tempature of the air blowing out the vents it is barely luke warm. Makes for a long cold ride. Any suggestions?
My 1996 Dodge Dakota is is not heating up enough to defrost the windshield.?
Make sure that the cold/warm lever is working. Could be that, even you put the lever in warm position, it doesn't work because the cord between the lever and the engine is broken.
My 1996 Dodge Dakota is is not heating up enough to defrost the windshield.?
    Heater controler, heater box.
    Possible causes:

Control cable on cold warm lever has slipped or become disconnected.

'Crud' buildup in heater core and/or heater hoses.

Bad HEATER thermostat, (where control cable connects).

Is this car a good buy?

I've been looking for a used car for a while, but I don't know too much about cars..

I was wondering if this is a good deal or not.

    It's a 2002 manual Hyundai Elantra Ve. It has 212 000KM (131 730 miles)

The person say's there's no repairs to do, though I will still get it inspected.

It comes with 4x Summer Tires (on rims) and 4x Winter Tires (on rims).

The latest repairs he did on the car (with bill proof), was windshield change, and the 4 brakes. He did a few others 2 years ago, clutch, timing belt, the radiator and the transmision

Body looks nice, but there's a few rust spots, nothing to bad though,

He asked 1800$, but he will be selling me it for 1500$ (CAD money) (since that's my budget limit) if I decide to buy it.

    Is this a good deal?

Also, I would only be using the car on the weekends (about 200km, house-%26gt;college, college-%26gt;house).. So less than 1000km a month.

    1. Rectently i got my windshield changed from a local dealer (not original one but new one, chinese may be). it had polythene packing marks on which i got rid off through this dealer. The problem is, in winter it gets hazy too early and some of the marks emerges again. How should i clean them. I tried cleaning them with newspaper and other glass cleaner but temporary relief.

Can anyone help me find windshield wipers for a 06 Pontiac G6, other than a dealer?

Dealers are charging $60.00 for wipers, and I think it's highway robbery, I've always changed my own, and bought from AutoZone or any corner auto store.
Can anyone help me find windshield wipers for a 06 Pontiac G6, other than a dealer?
I haven't seen a 2006 model, but am curious to know if the wiper as a whole (blade and holder) are removed by clip or screw, if it does at all.

If it does, then don't worry about changing the blade itself- just go get the whole assembly and replace it, using the fittings for larger clips.

Can anyone help me find windshield wipers for a 06 Pontiac G6, other than a dealer?
I had the same problem. I ended up with one Trico and one Michelin from Walmart. The Michelins are a lot cheaper, but you can only find the 24%26quot; at Walmart with the proper connector. Both are good wipers and have lasted. I think when the Michelin wears out, I'll buy another Trico so they match.
Advanced auto carries 2 trico models for around $12
its almost impossible to find them cheaper than 30 dollars, the lowest i seen them was 32 dollars online. just google them to find a distributor online

If you open the owners manual it will tell you where exactly the relay is for the washer pump

It's easy enough for you to just snap the old one off the arm on the way into the store, and pick up a pair of that exact same size.

It is what I always used to do.

Need help! 2002 mercury cougar tool light, buttons, back windshield wiper and spark plugs?

My hubby got a cougar a couple of years ago. for as long as I can remember there has been a yellow tool looking light showing on the ceiling. If ya have a cougar you would know what I'm talking about. What does the light mean? We've gotten the car tuned up but it hasn't gone away. Also we don't know how to turn on the back windshield wiper or change the spark plugs. There are also theses buttons that remains useless on the dash. I heard you can program them but how? This car didn't come with a users manual so I'm having to ask on here.
Need help! 2002 mercury cougar tool light, buttons, back windshield wiper and spark plugs?
That is a service reminder light. It comes on at preset intervals to remind you that service is needed, like oil changes. It has to be reset after service is performed. How to reset the light, and your other questions are answered in the Owners Guide and the Maintenance Guide. You can download a free copy off one of the Ford sites like www.genuineservice.com.

I just got a new front windshield for my car- and changed the wiper blades recently...?

but the wiper blade on the driver's side still streakes even after the new blade was put up- what should i do?
I just got a new front windshield for my car- and changed the wiper blades recently...?
First make sure if you wash your car to keep wax off your windshield, that will interfere with your blades.

With the streaking problem take a baby wipe or the harshest thing I would use is an alcohol wipe and run it along the blade of the wiper. This will remove any residue on the blade. If it still streaks wash the windshield with a good window cleaner to make sure there is no residue of any kind on the window.

Sorry, you should probably buy another one. Or look at the one that's there, does it look okay?
check the wiper arm itself, make sure it isnt loose. if its tight, you can bend it toward the windsheild a little bit. that will put a little bit more pressure on the wiper causing it to clean the windsheild with no streaks
quality wiper blades come with a little tube of blade conditioner. Rub it along the edge of the blade before you put it on and it should prevent streaking. Also use a quality windshield wash like RainX, it will help prevent streaks.
Get new blades. They just don't seem to make 'em very good anymore.
Try cleaning the blade with alcohol.

Name of plastic-like material that sticks to your windshield?

I'm looking for the name of that material that can be stuck and pulled off from the windshield as many times as you want because it doesn't use glue like regular stickers so it doesn't break.

I'm talking about those stickers that companies stick to your windshield for example when you get an oil change or change a tire.

Does anyone know what material they are made of?

I'm guessing it works through static electricity, perhaps I'm wrong. But is it just plastic? any special kind?
