Should I have gone through with a "no-fault" claim for my windshield?

I went to a major national auto service center to get my oil changed, and they had a person there who inspected my windshield and told me that they noticed a few chips in it. They asked if I had full insurance coverage on my vehicle, which I do, and they said that they could repair the chips and it would be paid for by my auto insurance via a %26quot;no-fault%26quot; claim.

I'm not sure if it was a good idea, but I gave them permission to repair the chips. I actually had no idea the chips were even there, and they probably were extremely tiny. During the repair, they called my insurance company, and the chip repair was approved and my deductible was waived.

Will this really have no effect on my insurance rates? And why would the auto service center fuss over a few small chips? Are they pretty much fixing something that doesn't need to be fixed just so that they can bill an insurance company and make profit?
Should I have gone through with a %26quot;no-fault%26quot; claim for my windshield?
The auto service center was trying to make a buck, but you did give them the authorization to fix it.

I don't know where they came up with the 'no-fault' line though. This hasn't anything to do with that. It's a comprehensive claim, and the deductible was waived because the glass was repaired instead of replaced. Comprehensive claims in general do not cause your rates to go up.
Should I have gone through with a %26quot;no-fault%26quot; claim for my windshield?
This will have no effect whatsoever on your insurance. They look at repair vs replace as cost effective -- the repairs usually run less that $100 while replacement of many windshields run in excess of $450.
You really should have inspected said cracks to begin with, however, having said that if you trust your mechanic then there really shouldn't be a problem. Small or large cracks on your windshield is not safe as it may not absorb an impact as well as if there were no cracks. You will not have to pay excess, you will also remain on the same %26quot;No Claim Bonus%26quot; rating however, I am unsure if they increase your premium?

Why does my 2001 chevy blazer shake when its about to take off and around turns?

It just started doing out of nowhere. When I idle at a light it shakes and when I got to take off it does it until I get to a higer rpm. I changed the plugs and wires. Still doing it. There is a spark coming from the rear of the motor near the windshield but lower. What would cause this? And what can I do to fix it? The truck only has 112k miles on it.
Why does my 2001 chevy blazer shake when its about to take off and around turns?
The spark sound really effin weird and should not be happening. It could be an emissions problem or exhaust leak or something in that area. Bro, get the spark checked out though that sounds a bit dangerous

Windshield Wipers Maintenance...?

I was told to clean the windshield wipers with a cotton %26amp; alcohol, and that it would eliminate the water-streaks on the windshield as they are operating.

I have done this, and they're still leaving continous streaks as they go back and forth.

I can change them, but I hate doing that.. I can never get it right! Is there some other home-made remedy for a sure-fix?
Windshield Wipers Maintenance...?
The streaking is caused by dirt, grease, oil. on the windshield. This comes from the cars in front of you and the sky.

Clean the window with Coca-Cola!. Just pour it on and scrub the glass with a paper towel. Be sure to rinse the mess off the window and all the metal surfaces of the car with a hose. Pepsi, RC and other colas don't work.

The wiper blades should be cleaned every time you wash the car. Alcohol is okay, but windex and a paper towel work fine. Your blades should last for years.

Remember, auto dealers, auto parts stores and wiper manufacturers sell wiper blades. They want to sell their product. Be smart.
Windshield Wipers Maintenance...?
Try adding a good quality windshield liquid cleaner and it should eliminate the streaks. Otherwise, you should change your windshield wiper. The auto dealership does recommend changing the wipers every year.
Most cars have a tensioner spring on the arm that you can adjust how tightly you want the wipers pressed onto your windshield.

Your car manual should have info on this if so equipped.

If not, have you tried applying Rain-X to windshield?

Might help.

Good luck.
You probably need a new windshield. Windshields tend to get a greasy film on them that is really hard to get off. You can see if a new windshield is covered by your insurance. If it is, just crack your windshield and get a new one for free!

Or, you can just use rain-x on your windshield. That's what I use and I dont use my wipers... at all!

Who is legally responsible for an accident when the designated driver misses a curve, hits a tree & is killed?

My daughter let her non-drinking friend drive her car to %26amp; from a party. The driver hit a tree, was killed. My daughter went through the windshield %26amp; is in intensive care with head injuries %26amp; broken bones.Who is responsible %26amp; does it change if the car was not insured?
Who is legally responsible for an accident when the designated driver misses a curve, hits a tree %26amp; is killed?
Two things..

First off, if your daughter went through the windshield, why was she not wearing a seat belt?

Second, it's hard to say who is responsible unless it can be proven beyond doubt that someone's negligence caused the crash.

In the meantime, if the car was not insured, it first off should not have even been registered, and second off whoever owned it better find a real good lawyer, because the dead person's family is gonna come with all guns blazing.
Who is legally responsible for an accident when the designated driver misses a curve, hits a tree %26amp; is killed?
sorry but who was driving is alway responsible if one misses the road can only be one the one driving sounds like your looking to blame someone for a accident and from what you have said there was only two driver and your kid and insurance wouldnt matter who was driving was one who wreak
Unfortunately, the driver is at fault. Two things to do in this matter and I have to stress...please give the family time to grieve.

If I understand correctly, your daughter's vehicle was not insured? If the driver was a resident of his parents home, you can file a claim on their auto insurance or his own. Depending how their policy language reads, they may be able to assist with medical-pain/suffering off the Bodily Injury coverage (occupant bodily injury). It may happen that since he had permissive use to drive her vehicle, they could decline the claim.

You also have to remember, you may be approached by the city for any property damage..which if not insured will be your daughter's responsibility.

I do wish you the best and my heart goes out to the family that lost a child. I lost my son to a drunk driver a year ago.
using causing and permitting.

Who was using the vehicle... Daughter and freind...

Who caused the vehicle to be used daughter...

Who permitted the vehicle to be used:-

? Owner.. as in who actually bought the car they are vicariously liable for who who uses the vehicle.. did they indicate who should and should not drive the vehicle... The insurance company avoids this liability by indicating on the policy NAMED DRIVERS. or drivers with the permission of THE POLICY HOLDER..

? Policy Holder.. As in who took out the insurance in their name They are vicariously liable to ensure only those permitted by the insurance company drive the vehicle and that all those driving the vehicle are suitably qualified.. that is why the policy holder signs the insurance it is a legal doccument and shows that they comply with the law.

? User, your daughter was using the vehicle and drove it originally, the other person was then Caused to drive the vehicle by your daughters actions of Permitting them to drive the vehicle.. The Driver then Caused the incident which caused injury to both the driver and your daughter..

In a case of law the police will prosecute the person using causing and permittng the vehicle to be used prior to the incident taking place. Therefore, without just cause your daughter permitted the vehicle to be used. ERGO she is also liable.. and will be prosecuted for the driving offences, ie no insurance ( as the driver probably wasn't insured) had the driver lived then they too will be prosecuted for dangerous driving.

In civil law.. astute lawyers/ solicitors will sue your daughter and the owner of the vehicle for PERMITTING the incidend taking place and for CAUSING the vehicle to be used on the road... if the driver was UNINSURED by rote of not being a named driver or permissible under the insurance policy, then the suit will land on the shoulders of your daughter AND the owner of the vehicle AND the person who took out the insurance policy.........

Welcome to the world of litigation BUT

Be thankful and blessed.....YES BLESSED... that your daughter is still alive..... because the other persons parents/ family... would give every penny in the world to still have the otherperson alive......
The driver is responsible for the accident........ but.... your Daughter is financially responsible because she owned the car. Whether the car was insured or not in no way determines %26quot;fault%26quot;. If it was not insured, your Daughter will be held responsible for any and all damages and compensation. Unless, the driver owned an insured car. There may be some coverage from that drivers policy. If it was insured, Your Daughters insurance company is liable. The driver (estate) can be charged for driving a car with no insurance. If there was no insurance, I would be running, not walking to see a lawyer.
I think what your really asking is who is financially responsible for the damages. The driver is legally responsible but the owner of the vehicle is responsible for the financial damages. That is why people buy insurance. I believe since your daughter allowed someone to drive her uninsured vehicle she is responsible for all financial losses which may include the death of the driver. If she is underage, you are then responsible since it was you who allowed her to drive an uninsured car.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT APPROCH THE FAMILY FOR ANY MONEY... but how ever the driver is at fault.. if the driver was coverd under your insurance then there is nothing to worry about.. if you didnt have insurance then it would be an out of pocket expense being your responsiblity because you own the car how ever after everything settles down a bit you and the other family could come to some kind of agreeance..
Yes ut is.My twin sister Nikki or should I say Nik was driving my Civic @ the time and it a tree by our house and then she promised me that she would pay me back. But has not for years my civic. But my civic was a 99 civic..But other wise my twin quit smoking THANK YOU GOD... but any ways Nik was dating Tyler Kyle's best man @ the time. Was in the car and he broke his hand and his foot. Nik went to a party. And I called her and called her. And she said%26quot; Mich. And I told her it is 1:00 a.m. Dad's goin to kill you. So my step dad started yell Nicole Ashley Smith you are grounded.. So other wise. I might get a SUV or a Car with four doors or two doors.
I'm not sure what answer you're looking for? The driver is responsible for failing to control the vehicle. and she's dead. The car was not insured and shouldn't have been on the road. Your daughter is guilty of letting someone drive her uninsured car. Your daughter, as the vehicle owner is responsible financially. She will probably be sued by the family of the driver, and if she is a minor, you could be sued as well.

Sorry about your daughter, I hope she fully recovers.

Stability on BMW F650 GS?

I am a novice street rider with this new bike. I feel very uncomfortable at highway speeds on this bike. If I changed to a larger windshield, would this help? Any other thoughts?
Stability on BMW F650 GS?
The BMW is anything but a GP bike, its an Enduro. These type of bikes are Paris-Dakar machines or very similar. Its not meant for the road really. I would say its 70:30 in favour of dirt by reading reviews.

Anyway, back to the question. With the ultra soft suspension and knobbly tires, long motorway journeys arent recommended.

There isnt much you can do about this i'm afraid, as your bikes habitat is primarily off-road.

I really dont understand why people here keep recommending smaller bikes. An Aprillia RS 250 would blow many bikes, much larger than itself, away easily. The F650 has a nice gentle acceleration curve, and good low speed stability. An ideal bike. You just need to ride to your machines strengths.

Good Luck.
Stability on BMW F650 GS?
this bike is definitely not a gp bike. i wonder what gave him that impression. like the guy above me said, this bike made for the dirt so you'll have to work with what you've got. not a bad bike tho. enjoy it and be safe
if you are a %26quot;novice%26quot; then you should not be riding a street legal GP bike

a larger winshield will not change the stability of the MC

the bike is as stable as the rider at the controls. if you think the bike is unstable then you need a smaller bike until your skills improve.

  • Do they sell commerical policies that cover only certain trucks in a trucking business?

A dump truck cracked my windshield and the insurance company is saying that the truck that broke it isn't covered. It doesn't make sense that the one truck that broke my windshield isn't covered. Wouldn't you have to buy a policy that covers your drivers in whatever truck they drove as opposed to the trucks the company owns when the trucks can change. I think hes just saying this so he doesn't have to pay but i don't knoww anything aboutcommerciall insurance.
Do they sell commerical policies that cover only certain trucks in a trucking business?
Do you have an auto insurance policy? TAke a look at it - does it cover every auto in your state? No. It only covers the LISTED autos.

So no, your employee isn't covered in ANY vehicle - unless they bought an %26quot;any vehicle%26quot; policy.

So, THAT dump truck wasn't insured. It was UNINSURED on the road. I happen to agree with you - I'd say he's just saying it to get out of the claim. I'd hike down to the office, and let him know you're taking him to small claims court, and adding in court costs and lost wages for your time in court.

Don't forget, BEFORE you do this, to file a police report at your local police station, indicating as much of his information as you know, and including his statement that the truck is uninsured. :D Make his life a little uncomfortable.

You sue the owner in small claims court, for the damage to your windshield.
Do they sell commerical policies that cover only certain trucks in a trucking business?
Exactally the same answer above. Just because he does not have insurance does not mean he is not responsible it just mean he gets to pay it out of pocket. Also when you talk to the police, make sure to let them know the owner indicated that he knowingly operates an uninsured vehicle.

    Windshield Repair!?

    HELP! Windshield Repair

Question Details: I just got my windshield %26quot;repaired%26quot; by some guys who tried to get me to replace it since the beginning. I asked them to do the repair first b/c I wanted to see what it would like look before I got a replacement.

It looks exactly the same! No change at all. I think they just want me to replace the windshield, but I would rather have it repaired correctly. The rock chip is about the size of a nickel...it's tiny and I just can't believe it would still be visible if they had done it right.

Can anyone recommend a company? Preferably from personal experience. I live in Charlotte, NC.

    Thanks! :o)
    Windshield Repair!?
I have a couple of comments:

1st I'm really sorry you had to deal with a hack!

2nd if he did actually put any %26quot;repair%26quot; material (resin) in the chip it is sealed and no one will be able to repair that particular chip.

Also, if the chip was new it should have come out clear (not able to see) if it was repaired with a suction kit. Basically the air and impurities should have been removed with suction and then replaced with resin then pressure to push the resin into all the parts of the chip. The last step of the repair process is to cure it with a UV lamp and then buff the area to be sure that it is smooth again.

In the future when you get a rock chip put a piece of clear tape on it ASAP, to keep it clean and dry. Don't wash your car with high pressure wash until you get it fixed. And _if_ you can find someone who offers repair first service use them. Not a replacement company who also will repair.

    Lastly, GOOD LUCK!!

Two things. Safelite auto glass is across the US and does a great job. You can see if they are nearby by looking here: http://www.safelite.com/locator.jsp

Second... glass repair won't fix how it looks... it will just ensure that it will not crack further from heat/cold weather. We had it done and the guy warned me that it won't look much better. It did look better... but not much.
they cant always repair them and make them look like nothing ever happened to them, that's why the guy tried to get you to replace it,he knew it wouldn't come out looking good,he probably repaired it the best that it could be done, any large place on a glass and it will be noticeable,so you should have listened to him and had it replaced, there a limit as to the size of a repair they can do,without it being noticeable, any place that large in a glass will be noticeable,so now you,ll have to replace it if you want it to actually go away, good luck with it.

I filed a windshield claim with USAA.... HELP!!!!!?

I changed my policy recently to a $0 deductible for comprehensive coverage. When I called to claim my crack in the windshield, I stupidly told them the crack occured before I changed my policy. I didnt move forward with the claim, but now I have ANOTHER crack on top of the old one and have GOT to get it fixed. I am afraid to file another claim so soon, and do not know what to do.

My question is: Do you get penalized for filing windshield claims even if you DONT end up going through with them?

Will my rates increase for filing claims so close together?

Will they honor my new policy change for the new crack even with the old crack still being there from before the policy change?
I filed a windshield claim with USAA.... HELP!!!!!?
You can submit your new claim to USAA. It would be best if you are honest and upfront with them regarding the crack. They have your first claim on record and can cross reference the damages easily.

Any crack large than a dollar bill cannot be fixed, and should be replaced. You can either replace the glass on your own ($200-$300) with any mobile auto glass company. Or you can follow up with your new claim, where your insurance company will probably charge you %26quot;betterment%26quot; or %26quot;wear and tear%26quot;. You can be charged with up to 75% wear and tear, meaning that even with coverage, you might be paying about $225 out of pocket.
I filed a windshield claim with USAA.... HELP!!!!!?
If the windshield was cracked and not replaced, it will not be covered under the change to the policy. If you had replaced the windshield and the new one was damaged, it would be covered.

You will need to replace the windshield at your own cost, or at least pay the deductible that was in place at the time of the first damage.

All you can expect from insurance is that they will get you back to the situation you were in before the covered loss. In this case, you had a cracked windshield. They will not pay to repair previous damage.

    Sorry
You have created a quandry for yourself. When you decided not to go through with the first claim, you should have still repaired the windshield, taken a photo of it or sent the bill in to prove that it was repaired. Now, they are going to doubt the claim on the second crack.

Comprehensive claims are usually not held against you. However, if you continue to break windshields, they can increase your deductible so that it will not cover your repairs.

I just asked my husband who has been a claims adjuster for 30 years. He says, %26quot;They owe you to put you back to what you had before you had the second crack in the windshield, which is a broken windshield, which has no value. If your company offers anything, you are going to be lucky.

Is it easy to take off and replace my jeep cherokee window?

ive got a crack down my windshield in the front of my jeep cherokee. its letting water in and i need to change it. i dont want to pay someone to do it and i can get a windshield pretty cheap. is it easy to take the window out and put another in?
Is it easy to take off and replace my jeep cherokee window?
look on you tube for videos.

i have replaced them before, so i can tell you, to watch out when taking one from a junk yard not to brake it. start at the bottom, and work your way towards the sides first. then do the top.

you can use either a small safety wire, or a small speedometer cable/bicycle cable, or even get the tool from harbour freight. they have the cheapest one that will do the job.

also, make sure you seal it when you put it on your jeep. i have one leak on me.

and you will need a helper.
Is it easy to take off and replace my jeep cherokee window?
I'd not really recommend you doing it yourself especially if you've not done one before bec there are safety issues and the windshield is vital in the vehicle.

Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way if you've got access to a cheap windshield why not call the glass ppl that come right to you and do it on the spot for a fairly good price , just call around.
it depends on what you find easy

its do able if u buy a windshield tool kit at wal-mart or autozone and then get the windshield

ive done it on my gfs 1999 dodge ram 3500
Are you sure? I had mine replaced in my 98 cherokee and it cost $110 and 30 minutes with me watching them do it.

Is it worth the trouble of maintenance than buying a new vehicle?

I have a 4 Cyl Turbo 98' VW Passat and I love it. Lately it's been giving me a great load of problems and I'm up to my eyebrows in finacial burden. The car is paid for and I have already replaced all four rotors and brake pads. I'm well due for a timing belt change and all the other maintenance, plus some cosmetics that would help bring the value up. Now the windshield motor has gone out on me which makes it unable to pass the state inspection.

My question is: Should I tough it out and shell out the money for all that the car obviously needs or would it be better to purchase a new car if I can pay it off within a year or less than two years?
Is it worth the trouble of maintenance than buying a new vehicle?
As a general rule, keeping and maintaining a used car is cheaper than buying a new car.

Consider, a new car will cost you a couple of thousand in a down payment and then $300-$500 a month in payments. You will also be paying higher insurance and registration taxes on the new car. Finally, although you have put a lot of money in the old car, you won't get that much out of it because it is a 9 year old car (unless you are a master negotiator when using it as a trade-in).

Unless you old car is a real lemon, and reliability is a real issue, you are still better off financially keeping the old car running. Keep the VW, but put away money into a car savings fund. Then, when the car gets to the point of being too unreliable, you have have more for your down payment.
Is it worth the trouble of maintenance than buying a new vehicle?
lucky for you to be able to pay off a new car in less than 2 years... get rid of the headache.. trade it in..
If it was a better car I would say get it fixed. but VW has a bad reputation for being problem cars. So get something better. A new car is not always something better either.
Maintenance is cheaper than buying a new car. Can be worth the extra money for peace of mind and less hassle though.
Good timing. Consumer reports just today came out with a story on how people who keep their cars and drive them into the ground (300,000+ miles) will save an average of $33,000.

Think about this. Will your Passat, at its very worst, cost you $300 to $400 a month? That's what you'll be shelling out for a new car, not to mention the increased insurance premiums.

A NEW car is mostly a materialistic thing. If the Passat functions for you keep it and save some moolah.
If your income barely supports your lifestyle then the older vehicle with all of its maintenance needs may be better. Even if you had to make on average $1000.00 in repairs each year, you would be shelling out a lot less money in a year than if you were making a $200.00 monthly car payment.

However if you are making way more money than what you need to support your lifestyle, you might want to avoid the irritation of the clunker and its needs and spend the money for a new car.
The car you already own is ALWAYS the cheapest car you can own. Even with all the repairs you mentioned it's a mere drop compared to the cost of a new car. Remember, when your tires touch the curb at the dealers lot you lose at least 15% (!) of the value of your 'new' car. A '98 vehicle will also be MUCH less to insure vs an '08.

Me thinks you have new-car fever.......

  • Water pouring into passenger side floor after changing cabin air filter.?

I just changed my cabin air filter out in my 2004 Ford Taurus. It seemed like a real simple project. I took out the old filter and replaced it with the new one. Then there are four plastic nubs that snap back in to the metal. It only goes one way. But yet I have a bad seal around the bottom of the windshield that kind of bows out a little, and that allows the water to pour in. I've checked it over and over but the only explanation I can come up with is the plastic piece somehow became warped and now has to be replaced. Is there a trick to this? I don't want to spend $500 bucks on a piece of plastic. Help!
Water pouring into passenger side floor after changing cabin air filter.?
first remove the cover and filter check to see if the drain hole is pluged you can use a litthe silicone to seal it (the cover not the hole) if you think it needs it also check to see if the drain holes are pluged under the hood

also call the dealer they had a recal on some of thease fot the drains pluging up they will tell you over the phone if yours is on the list
Water pouring into passenger side floor after changing cabin air filter.?
    Clear acryllic sealant.
get some clear silicone and run a bead around the windshield and also around the piece of plastic thats warped, let it set up to a rubber feel before installing it.

How do I loosen the lowest bolt holding the battery when changing the battery in 95 chevy lumina?

I'm trying to change the battery myself but there is a brace holding the battery in (the battery is located under the windshield wiper fluid). There was a bolt at the top, which I got out, but there is another bolt almost at the bottom of the brace which is at the same level as the bottom of the battery. It's really hard to get at. Even a straight tool wasn't working for me because the hoses/wires that connect to the battery are really stiff and I couldn't get them out of the way enough to grab onto the top of the bolt. Thank you for any helpful suggestions!

I have a problem with my windshield wipers for a ford f-150 can anyone help?

i have a f-150 and resently my wipers went out, i know is not a fuse, the relay or the switch because i changed them all out but i also have problem with the dome light and the temp gauge the seem not to work i think i have a problem somewhere where they all meet
I have a problem with my windshield wipers for a ford f-150 can anyone help?
The Mechanic Queen is here not to worry.

Lets start with a simple check process.

get you a test light from Autozone or a nearby Automoitive oparts store.]...they sale them for around $4.00

get the one that has the ice pick so you can probe the wire and check for continuity.

Make sure it is a 12V tester

Then go to your fues box and clamp the alliagtor clip from your tester and ground it to a metal on the truck. make sure you get a good ground so that it lights up.

Then touch the fuse with truck running so that they all get fire.

Make sure you touch both ends of the fuse, this way there is no secodn guessing.

    If everything checks out okay.

The turn on your windshield wipers and go to the motor and probe the hot wire going to your windshiled wiper motor and see if it lights up and if it deas light up, then you have a burned out motor.
I have a problem with my windshield wipers for a ford f-150 can anyone help?
Could be a computer part too. MOST parts stores can run a diagnostic check for FREE to help pinpoint what is causing it. There are many onboard computers on vehicles today and if one is sending a wrong signal it'll play hell with a lot of things.
    pay a mechanic
check the ground on the wiper motor. if you have a good one check the hot as well. you most likley need a wiper motor. common problem.
just dont drive in the rain and i will promiss you that you will be fine.

only to get home and find a little smoke coming out between the hood and the windshield. this has never happened before, is this something i should be worried about?
I just had an oil change on my 2000 honda accord at firestone today?
As an ex-mechanic I know when you add the oil into the engine often a little spill . Imagine pouring soda for one bottle to the other the hole is small and sometime a little will run over the side. A funnel can stop this but some garages frown upon the use of funnels because in between uses the oiliness on the funnel will pick up foreign contaminates that are harmful to the engine
I just had an oil change on my 2000 honda accord at firestone today?
They probably just spilt some oil on your exhaust, it will burn off and then the smoking will stop, its usually because of the akward placement of the oil filter
they probably spilled the oil when they were putting it in.
Yes...maybe they spilled some on the exhaust

    BUT%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;

They could have left the oil fill cap off

thats not good..look under the hood

Take it back to have it checked
Oil spilled on the exhaust, don't worry about it will burn off...
Only if it doesnt go away sometimes when changing the oil on these hondas some oil lands on the exhaust pipe and burns off creating this smoke if you dont feel safe take it back im sure they will check it and clean any residual oil that may be left there continuing to burn off.
I don't think so. A lot of times when they change your oil they do it really fast and spill some. When it heats up it burns causing the smoke. It will probably be fine. Just check your oil and make sure it't not too low. I have heard of ppl not refilling the oil once they drain it and that also could cause the smoke.
    definably spilled oil on exhaust

91 Cherokee. Where's the Windshield Wiper Relay?

Does anyone know where this relay is located. My windshield wipers work for a little while, then shut off. But....we can't figure out where the relay is to check it and change it.

    1991 Jeep Cherokee Limited 4.0
91 Cherokee. Where's the Windshield Wiper Relay?
On Fords, it's on top of the drivers' side wheelwell in a roughly 5%26quot; x 10%26quot; plastic box. It's almost got to be someplace similar on the Jeep. Remember that it can't be too far from the fuse box.

Is there something wrong with the 99.5 Vw Jetta.. It has a mix of both 99 and 00. This car is the WORST?

So in the 2 years or so we have owned this...

My boyfriend gets home from dealership, engine light comes on. There is no Catalytic Converter in the car.

Alternator rebuilt, rebuilt went couple days later, another alternator

Summer of 07 Transmission goes. New Clutch Summer of 07 1 month and half later jumps timing and something happens but it able to be rebuilt.

    Spark plugs

E-brake stays engaged on one side

Window leans in off track or something

    Wiper motor went

Summer 08 Slight ticking noise, eventually gets louder, soon after that holes in the piston and valves completly bent. Had to get another engine

Changing wipers, arm craked windshield, windshield replaced (our fault)

    O2 sensors

    Batteries died in Key fob

Sometimes key fob will decide not to unlock with the button

    Cold night, starter went

Wipers again, wipe veryyy slow then go back and tick for about 10 seconds - Sometimes dont wipe at all

Then everytime turn the car on wipers dont wipe but make ticking sounds and tick in place

All rotors and ball joints whatever decided to go one right after another

I'm sure I have forgotten plenty. You name it!! Is this common with this year especially? Does that maybe have something to do with it? I'm a female and rarely drive my car, mainly because I'm afraid.
Is there something wrong with the 99.5 Vw Jetta.. It has a mix of both 99 and 00. This car is the WORST?
No, not really. Have owned and driven several volkswagens but have never had that many issues in any.

    bought a lemon - call 1-800-lemonlaw
Its a used car and thats why someone qualified should check it out before you bought it.

VW doesn't make reliable cars anyways but this car was abused.

Steven - Its about 10 years too late to be crying lemon.
No catalytic converter means your engine check light will be on forever in any OBD 2 car ( cars made after 1996). VW's are excellent cars if maintained properly. A nightmare if neglected.

If the starter on my car is out does that mean my radio wont work until I get it changed?

The starter on my car went out about a week ago. My lights come on and everything but my radio and windshield wipers dont work. Does this have anything to do with the starter not working at the moment or is there a blown fuse or something? Thanks in advance.
If the starter on my car is out does that mean my radio wont work until I get it changed?
    The Or something is correct
If the starter on my car is out does that mean my radio wont work until I get it changed?
Sounds more like a dead battery then a starter problem. is the starter making a click noise when you turn the key on? if so that is the starter not having enough power to start the car. Many problems that are diagnosed as bad starters are infact a charging system problem. A mechanic will know this and deal with it accordingly.
If there's a in line fuse,, other then that a blowed fuse in the fuse box My answer to your question is,,,, No
check your fuses ....... and have the starter tested you may have poped a fuse and thats your whole problem your car wont turn over
May be a bad battery and and/ or problem with the charging system. Could also be poor contact on the battery terminals. Have a reputable mechanic check it out for you.
check battery then fuses then starter.

  • 2000 Ford Focus Windshield Washer Pump NOT working...?

I have a 2000, Ford Focus. It's not cold outside, The wipers work fine, I even went to the extent of changing the Washer Pump, and the Switch at the Steering wheel, and Nothing. There is no power to the new pump. I checked the fuses and they are all good. What can this problem be? Any Ideas??
2000 Ford Focus Windshield Washer Pump NOT working...?
Depends. If you have rear wipers as well it's controlled through a Central Timer Module that you'd need to locate and diagnose. If you don't (doesn't matter if you have intermittent or not) the module works only to keep the washer going a bit longer after you press the switch, so you're back to a wiring problem.

In the latter case, 12VDC should be present any time the ignition is on, on one of the wires, as the system controls the ground side to make it work. If you have no power (12VDC +) on either wire to the pump and the fuse is ok, the problem is between the fuse box and the pump.

You could also check for a switching ground with a test light between each wire and the positive of the battery as the switch is pressed, but if you have no power (positive 12VDC) at either wire, I'd go after that first.

Have you had any body work done recently? It's very common to have a wire cut or connector not reconnected after such work.

    Good luck.
2000 Ford Focus Windshield Washer Pump NOT working...?
cheak the relays and wireing there is eather a short or an open in the circut cheak the wiring on the pump and at the switch and in be tween the too if you have a test light and a digital volt ohm meater use them to see if wire is broke or shorted the meater should have a contunity cheaker on it to see if curcit is open

Buying a used car, windshield was cracked, seller agreed to sell with safety passed. Changed mind?

As title states I am buying a used car, the seller signed a promise to purchase with me (thank goodness) that states it had to come safetied. He currently has my deposit with him to pay for the windshield and front tires that he has been told have to be repaired. He just found out that the windshield cant be just repaired and needs to be replaced to the tune of $500. I havent heard from him yet, what do you think he will come back with? Declining the sale, but then he would be out what he paid for the safety and e-test but has to give me back my deposit. Thoughts?

    Good question.

    Im not sure.

I think he would rather fix everything needed than give your money back.

And TRUST ME, your dealer can get a windshield for less than $500.

When is the right time to change oil?

Hi! I have a Honda Civic 2008. When they change oil they put those stickers on the windshield right? Mine was already due both the mileage and the date but my car oil indicator says that it is still 50% good. So.. when do I need to change oil? What should I follow, the sticker (with the mileage and date) or the oil indicator?
When is the right time to change oil?
The oil is the life of the engine so take good care of it , most people change there oil every 3000 mile's. If the sticker comes off and you don't remember when the oil was changed , the best thing to do is have it changed again, your sure not going to hurt it by changing the oil to much.
When is the right time to change oil?
after midnight, but that's just me...

I think the best is to monitor the number of hours the engine has been running. This will take into consideration time spent idling which is hard on an engine. They make hour meters for cars but not many people have them.

3000 miles is best if you drive a lot of highway or city miles each week. Otherwise, 5000 is better for anyone who doesn't drive much. I barely drive 3000 these days %26amp; change my oil at 5000, which I've been doing for 5 years. Car runs great %26amp; I check the fluids weekly.

Don't go with indicator,... its shows the level of oil not the life of oil.

I prefer every 2,500 miles. Because it's even and less confusing. Think about it -- 10,000 miles, 12,500 miles, 15,000 miles, 17,500 miles, 20,000 miles, 22,500 miles, etc...

    Compared to 10,000 miles, 13,000, 16,000, 19,000, 22,000, 25,000, 28,000, 31,000, etc... the number pattern switches up

Wrong. Modern cars can easily go 5,000 miles, many up to 7,500 without an oil change. 3,000 is an outdated mileage and no doubt still suggesting by oil companies. Read your owner's manual and go by that instead.

Have you ever seen oil after 3,000 miles? Go with 3,000 miles or every 3 months. Better to be safe than sorry on a necessity for work.

One thing to look at, go back to where you got it done. They will have it on there computer. If it is a jiffy lube or what ever you have there, they will have the whole history on your car. And if it is a jiffy lube or Oil can henry and you are low, they will top it off.

just have a look at it off the dipstick. If it is black and smelly, change it. Mileage varies depending on the oil type

This is only true of regular oil. If you have synthetic oil, the longer you leave it in the better it gets, to a point. Modern cars have computers that will tell you when you need to change it. It tests the viscosity. When the light comes on, change it.

    In response to Belle:

Actually, highway driving is much, much easier on your engine than is stop and go or city driving or short trips. If all of your trips are 10 miles or less, you probably should change your oil every 3000 miles.

Otherwise, 5000 miles or 6 months is fine.

i must be old, i remember when you used to change the oil once a year.....

Most say 3000 miles but the best rule of thumb is to check the color and level of your oil at 3000 miles and if it still looks good then I would go by what honda says or somewhere in between
Give it 5000 miles. 3000 is overkill, unless your warranty requires it.
The oil indicator. It is set by the manufacturer.
The oil should be changed every 3,000 miles. I'd go with the sticker.
3000 miles or every 3 months....whichever comes first

All about momentum...For the expert in Physics only... joking.....hope you'll answer :)?

A high speed bus and an innocent bug have a head-on collision. The sudden change of momentum fort he bug spatters it all over the windshield. Is the change in momentum of the bus greater, less or the same as the change in the momentum experienced by the unfortune bug?

This is a serious question... please help....hehe
All about momentum...For the expert in Physics only... joking.....hope you'll answer :)?
Momentum must be conserved so the change in momentum for both must be the same. i.e. the momentum is the same for both but in opposite directions.

It is the relative different in Masses (i.e. the bus is probably over 1 million times heavier than the bug) and so it doesn't really notice the collision - but obviously the bug notices it more (but not for long though heh!).
All about momentum...For the expert in Physics only... joking.....hope you'll answer :)?
    the same
Of course, momentum is a form of kinetic energy and because the (poor) bug splattered, likely some of the bug's momentum was converted into thermal energy and momentum was not perfectly conserved...haha.

    HELP! Windshield Repair?

I just got my windshield %26quot;repaired%26quot; by some guys who tried to get me to replace it since the beginning.

    Thanks! :o)
    HELP! Windshield Repair?
They may have fixed it. I had a small crack in mine and I had it repaired. It made some of the crack go away but most was there. They said sometimes the solution can't fill all the space of the damage but enough goes in to prevent it from spreading across the entire windshield. The ones I used guaranteed that it wouldn't spread. It hasn't in two years though the crack is pretty visible. It was still cheaper than a full replacement. When I get ready to sell the car I'll most likely replace it. Anyway, see if they offer a no spreading guarantee or if you just want it to be gone you'll most likely have to just replace it. If you google %26quot;windshield replacement%26quot; you'll find services that can do that who would be local to you.
    HELP! Windshield Repair?
anytime they fix a rock chip it always looks horrible, you can still see the repair, been there done that a couple of times and always end up having them replace the windshield because the repair looks like crap, I have had a couple of differen't companies do the repair and it always looks bad no matter who does it.

How do you know when you need to change the oil of your car?

There's a sticker on the windshield that has oil something on it but the date on the sticker is past while the mileage is above the current mileage on the car. I know u're supposed to change the oil after 3000 miles but how do I know what was the mileage when the oil was changed last time?
How do you know when you need to change the oil of your car?
If your unsure then play it safe and change it,for the price of oil and the change it would be worth it,also normally the oil looks sludgy and dirty. When you have a change ask to see or have a look if you are doing yourself and the old oil to the new oil shocks me everytime and i do mine Twice every year .

Every 3000 miles is good or twice a year.

Dont forget to change the oil filter also, and you may as well change the petrol filter if you are on petrol as if you dont know when that changed also.
How do you know when you need to change the oil of your car?
    Keep a record.
If you don't know when the last oil change was, then its time to change it now!!! ASAP
Subtract 3000 from the mileage on the sticker and thats the mileage when it was changed. Many oil change places want you to change the oil every 3 months........so subtract 3 months from the date shown....
Not knowing if it's yours. You may choose to change it at 3K or go to synthitic at this time. And change it at 7500.Does the oil now have a dark color to it ?If so now the time.

Once you choose to use syn. oils it is not a good Idea to change back to regular oil.

Rule of thumb is to add 3K to the speed o meter during oil service and that is writtin on the stickers. That is when next ones due.
your supposed to change the oil every 3 to four months and mileage wise your supposed to change the oil every 3,000 miles but you should go by what ever comes first. I would just check the oil if the oil is not very dark in color and its at the proper level then I would just leave it be until the car reaches the mileage on the sticker. If the oil is a little under the full level on the dip stick than I would top it off but remember if the oil is very dark or black in color than I would change it.
subtract 3000 miles from that sticker on your windshield and that will tell you, the mileage that is on the sticker is when you should have changed it again.
First of all, it is probably time for an oil change right now because of the time (More on this later) Regular oil changes are the single most important ingredient of a long life engine, so head over to an oil change place tomorrow.

If you are curious about when it was last changed, deduct 3,000 miles from the sticker. That is how many miles your car had at its last oil change. Deduct 3 months from the date on the sticker, that is the date your car had an oil change. 99% of the shops will add 3K miles and 3 month's to that day's date when they prepare the sticker.

Now back to why it is time to change the oil even though the mileage has not come yet. Miles is very well understood by people (Every 3K, 5K etc.. whatever the manual says) but if you drive little which is your case, you should also keep track of the time. Even if you do not drive your car, the properties of the oil will deteriorate over time just by the presence of the engine combustion by-products. So if you hit 3 months before 3K miles for example that should prompt you to change your oil. Whichever comes first in other words.

Having said all that, modern oils are a lot better than before. If you have passed the time a little this one time, that is probably not a big deal at all. I would not stress over it. In fact, you will notice that in the new cars the oil change interval is extending all the way to 7,500 miles or 7 months. The advances in the oils is the primary reason for this. But in the long run, sticking to a rigorous oil change routine at the frequency called by the manual is the single best thing you can do for your engine. Hope this helps.
the date on ur sticker was the day the oil was changed last.......the milage on ur sticker is when you will need it changed again.

sometimes they include the weight of the oil, brand, how many quarts it takes, and a filter number
well if you dont know chang it and after that it should say on the sticker. the millage number on the sticker should be the next time you need an oil change. just remember you can never change your oil to much just to little!

How do you change out a switch for the wipers of 04 Sable?

I have never done it but I'm willing to try. I just need to get the part, because my windshield motor is fine. Can anyone help me out??
How do you change out a switch for the wipers of 04 Sable?
First check the fuses for the wipers and then make sure the motor is definately good before going any further. But if is comes down to the switch, your gonna have to disassemble the column, possible having to remove the steering wheel. The switch itself shouldnt be too much and if you have any doubts about the process, go to your local parts dealer and buy a haynes or chiltons manual. This will explain step by sep on how to do it yourself. Hope this helps.
How do you change out a switch for the wipers of 04 Sable?
If the 04 is like my 02, the switch is part of the turn signal switch. The bottom cover of the steering column comes off with a few screws, the turn/bright/window wiperwasher switch connects with two screws, and the plug for it is right in the back. You will just need a torx screwdriver set to get the screws out.

How much can I ask for my car?

It's a 1989 Toyota Corolla 4-Door. Automatic, 160K mostly highway, stereo works, AC/Heat works beautifully, car starts up every time. Tires are brand new. New brakes, pads, shoes, and hoses. New exhaust. Engine oil was just changed. No body damage, but does need a new windshield eventually - which is $100. No interior damage.
How much can I ask for my car?
well first of all the kelly blue book value on a private party in fair condition is 750.00. The value for good condition is 1,000.00 so repairing the windshield for 100.00 would see a return of about 150%. Whichis pretty signifigant and definitley worth doing. If you are looking for a quick sale i would start the price at 699.99 or if you have time to sell it then go for 749.99. If you replace the windshield then ask 899.99 for a quick sale or 999.99 for the longer sale.

    Hope this helps!!!

How to do you change the speakers in the dash on a 1998 Chrysler Concorde?

How to do you change the speakers in the dash on a 1998 Chrysler Concorde?
I don't remember exactly, but in most chrysler and jeep models the entire top piece of the dash just pops off. no screws or anything, just get underneath it and pry up gently.
How to do you change the speakers in the dash on a 1998 Chrysler Concorde?
The IP cover as it is called is pried up with just an ordinary flat head screwdriver. Be careful, it is plastic and it is fragile. Just get under the front part of it and it should come up quite easily.

Why don't my windshield wipers wipe smoothly?
    Buy better blades next time.

%26quot;ANCO%26quot; makes the best. They've been making them for decades.

Bosch, Rain-x and the other aftermarket one suck.
Try applying an approved lubricant to the rubber blades and cleaning the windshield glass with %26quot;Bon Ami%26quot; cleanser which is safe for glass cleaning. Make sure to activate the window spray feature when using the wipers if the glass is dry.

    http://www.bonami.com/
i would try a different set of blades some time the cheaper blades will not wipe as good and will make noise across windsheld try a set of anco
I would change the wiper arms (sounds like a spring tension problem in the arms) Install a fresh set of blades, and when you use the wipers it is always a good Idea to run the washers to remove any fine dust that will eventually scar the glass.
Another brand of washer fluid may also add to reducing the strain of the blades as they pass over the glass.

Typically the flex that the blade edge has and the type of rubber making contact with the glass determines smoothness.

What do I have to do to change my wipers over so they become intermittent?

I have a '73 Monte Carlo with two speed windshield wipers, and I want to make them intermittent. Is it possible to swap in the wiper motor from a Caddy or Oldsmobile and change the switch? I don't even know if any Chevys came with that option back then. I'd appreciate detailed answers if this is possible.
What do I have to do to change my wipers over so they become intermittent?
Monte Carlos were available with intermittent wipers that year. If you could find the whole wiper system from another one and swap it that would be the easiest. Try this as a parts source. www.hemmings.com.

To be honest, all things on a car are possible. A lot of adaptation goes a long way but the question is...will it be worth the money it will cost to convert?

If I have a sticker, like for State Police PBA assn, on the windshield, how do I put it on my new car off old?

I am wondering how i can change the little stickers that go on the windshield (This one is State P.B.A. it is OK) from my old car on the windshield, to my new car. They are transparent and have the glue, and i need to figure out how to remove it and preserve the stickiness so i can put it on my new windshield.

I -may- be able to peel it off.... is there any way to assist the peeling? Does it peel off better if it is hot or cold? Or will water help?

If i could get another sticker, i would. This is a sentimental PBA Sticker, and unfortunately the other car went to car heaven and the windshiels are NOT interchangeable (they completely different cars, like Ferraris and GMCs) so I wonder how to do this, any tips or tricks to help me not mess it up.

What would you normally pay for a new battery for a 2007 Toyota Sienna?

He does this for everything from an oil change to new windshield wipers. He makes me do it myself and then complains that I paid too much.
What would you normally pay for a new battery for a 2007 Toyota Sienna?
IF THOUST HUSBAND CANNOT INSTALL A CAR BATTERY, THEN HE SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF HIMSELF.

ALSO, CAR BATTERIES SHOULD LAST MORE THAN 2 YEARS. IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPLACED FREE.

A DECENT BATTERY IS $50 - $75. INSTALLATION SHOULD BE FREE IF YOU HAVE A MAN.
What would you normally pay for a new battery for a 2007 Toyota Sienna?
    around 80 bucks
I just asked my husband and he said if you go to a shop it'll probably be about $150 or so, which is a lot of money for something that can be done by your husband. How much did you pay?
    My dad doesn't charge anything.

Windshield wipers are easy. I can do those myself. You could too.

LOL! It sounds like he is just being difficult. Maybe you need to add about $50 dollars to every price you give him and then when he starts going off about how you spent too much, you can say you were kidding and you really only spent whatever and then he will be relieved

Car heating problem on a 2002 Kia Spectra?

But, when you use the dial to select if the air comes out at your feet, face, or on the windshield it will not change, it just stays where it is blowing at the face level. Is this a hard fix? Anyone else have this problem, that can give me an estimate on cost of repairs?

Car heating problem on a 2002 Kia Spectra?
I had an '02 Spectra, hatchback until a few months ago. The only thing I can say I ever had a problem with was the engine light was on more than off. Every time I took it to them, they acted like I was a dumb broad and never did anything! lol But as far as the heat thing, sorry,I never had that happen. Isn't it still under warranty? Good luck!

  • What to do in a rain when I dont have back windshield wiper ? Help plzz?

I have a 2002 corolla CE , so it doesn't have back windshield wiper . I am a new driver though, so it's really scary sometimes when it's raining and I dont have vision in the back , from the sides , rain drops blur every glasses they stick too.

    What 's your advice ?

Just a few more questions I 'd like to ask too ,

    pretty silly though,

When changing gears , D to R and vice versa , I heard strange noise somewhat sounded like belt gripping in rainy day, that only came off when I RELEASE the brake ! good chance it was a transmission problem ?

I am told that I have to apply the brake ALL the way down before changing gears ( automatic transmission ) otherwise I would damage the transmission . Is it true ?
What to do in a rain when I dont have back windshield wiper ? Help plzz?
for your back windshield try using rain-x i have used it before and it works pretty good.

You can always keep your glass pretty clean and it should just roll off anyways.
What to do in a rain when I dont have back windshield wiper ? Help plzz?
If you don't have rain-x just use a spray on wax it works great.

The noise could be the drive belt but yes you need to fully stop before changing gears.

Yes you will damage the transmission.
You can get a bottle of rainx for 3 bucks. A blown transmission is close to 500 for a manual.
Stop driving in reverse, Absolutely ok to shift into any gear you desire while driving at any speed.
    I agree with P-nut.

Rain-X all the windows on your car. When it rains, you will be amazed how well you can see. Use your wipers as little as possible. That what wears off the Rain-X.

As long as your car is stopped, changing gears from R to D or D to R will not cause damage to the transmission.

Remember, a car can be stopped after releasing the brake pedal. Then change gears. Transmission is sort of designed to allow you to change gears from Park to Reverse to Drive. If a light touch on the brakes keeps the car stationary during the gear change, then that is all that is needed.

I am saddened by all the bad advice that is being dispensed to young, new drivers.
When bad weather hits, it often hits hard and with a fury. It's during the wet rainy weather that driving becomes more difficult and challenging. What helps me to be the best and safest driver during wet rainy days with snow and sleet mixed in is RainX Invisible Windshield Wiper.

I am the type of driver who is constantly spraying on windshield washer fluid to remove grime and salty remains from my windows while driving in the winter. I am thankful that Blue-Coral-Slick, Ltd, the manufacturers of RainX products, had the consumer in mind when developing their patented formula found in RainX car care products. The Invisible Windshield Wiper is, in my humble opinion, one of their more superior products.

So, I was driving the other day behind a vehicle that was still snow covered. Apparently the driver was in a hurry to go somewhere and removed a minimal amount of snow, enough to clear his front and rear windshields. Suddenly, although not snowing outside, my windshield was covered with snow and ice that was blowing off of his vehicle.

After putting on my windshield wipers, to my dismay no washer fluid was emitted! The dry wiper blades were no match for the mass of mushy mess that was sticking to my car's windshield, decreasing my visibility every second. I threw on my hazard lights and confidently pulled off the road knowing that I had RainX Invisible Windshield Wiper in the trunk of my car.

What is RainX Invisible Windshield Wiper

I purchased a box of RainX Invisible Windshield Wiper that contained yellow packages of handy ready to use towelettes. These large sized, pre-moistened towelettes are ideal for the situation that I found myself in.

The thick tough twelve inch cloths contain the original magic formula that RainX is known for. The formula, once applied, really does repel rain, sleet and snow, as promised. It is quite impressive when you think about it. One minute I could not see beyond the ice and snow that clung relentlessly to my windshield. The next, I was back on the road seeing through brilliantly clean glass.

    Directions and Experience

Using RainX Invisible Windshield is extremely easy, with very little preparation needed. It is suggested to clean and thoroughly dry the surfaces that need to be treated, however, in my emergency situation, I did not. Yet, I have first hand experience that this product works beautifully through dirt, grime and other slush. So, then, you can imagine the superior results if applied correctly!

The special formula in each towelette will last at least one month after applying. Just wipe the entire windshield, mirrors and windows in firm circular motions until dry. I also use the same towelette to treat my headlights and rear lights. RainX works great at restoring the brightness of my headlights, especially after my vehicle has been parked for a day or so, collecting frost, snowy salt and dirt. I live in an area where dirt is applied to the roads after plowing the snow. This is very messy and does decrease the functionality of the headlights.

After the windshield and other glass surfaces are cleaned, it's directed that a second application is performed prior to wiping off with a paper towel.

    Final Thoughts and Recommendations

Rain-X Invisible Windshield Wiper is an excellent product that I highly recommend. It has saved me from driving through dirty wet windows on more than one occasion. The handy towelettes are so convenient. I now keep a package in my glove box for such emergencies as I recently experienced.

Are there laws to protect against objects being deliberatly thrown at car while driving?

This morning on my way to work, a woman was riding my bumper...actually she was going 65 in 55 while car in front of me was going 50. I was too busy freaking out because she was flying behind me and wasn't slowing down so I started to speed up a little and had to hit my brakes because slow car in front of me and truck next to me. She was obviously upset, but I didn't do it intentionally. I have no problem brake checking a person if they are riding my bumper for no reason and I am going the speed limit or up to 5 above, but this wasn't the case. I had no choice but to brake or else I would've hit the lady in front of me. So anyway, I braked, she got over and started to drive at my speed since the truck was now in front of her and the car in front of me was still going slow. I looked over at her with the %26quot;What did you want me to do?%26quot; face and she pointed in my direction and said, %26quot;I got something for you!%26quot; and shortly after some change hit my windshield. There isn't any visible damage, but she could've caused an accident or cracked my windshield. This of course made me furious since I didn't do anything deliberately and she was cleary in the wrong. So I followed her and got her license plate and called 911 to report her. I never done this before so I didn't even know how they would handle it. Unfortunately in Florida it's consider Road Rage and they don't do anything about it here but take the plate # and file a complaint. If there was visible damage or a cop would've witnessed it they could do more.

My problem is that she was deliberately trying to damage my car or make me scared. I don't really know what her problem was, but something serious could've happened. I had just dropped my 4 month off at daycare 15 minutes before!

Since the cops can't really do anything, what should I do? I thought that there was some kind of law to protect people...I just want her to know that you can't just speed like a bat out of hell almost cause an accident then get mad and throw crap at other cars and almost cause and accident there! Somebody could've gotten hurt.

This isn't for debate, I just want to know if anyone has gone through this? What did you do and do you know of any laws that protect the victim? The file says that one of my rights is to seek restitution from the guilty party...my husband is furious and doesn't think the matter is resolved.

    What would you do?

Are there laws to protect against objects being deliberatly thrown at car while driving?
It's very difficult to prove since it ends up being your word against hers. You could try to sue her but without criminal charges that would be an uphill battle. The best thing I can think of is lean on the police. They might follow up on or maybe just pay her a visit just to scare the snot out of her. Squeaky wheel gets the grease. I bet a visit from an angry cop will at least shake her up a bit.
Are there laws to protect against objects being deliberatly thrown at car while driving?
since there really was no eye witnesses the matter can not go to court because you can not prove she threw something. Next time though if you happen to run into someone like that again just say they are rectless driving and they are going to cause an accident.

WE had to call the cops for a drunk driver supposedly we did not know if he was or wasnt but he was swerving all over the road and we called The highway patrol and we followed them until the cops could catch up with him.

I had someone do the same thing not as quite as sever as yourse though but they gave me the finger and got all mad at me because i had to stop because a big mac was turning and they were riding up my butt. but getting back to you. Since there is no damage to your car there is not much the cops can really do at this point but i would reported again and call the HIGHWAY PATROL next time not 911 and reported as rectless driving. then they will ask were you are and try to get the person themselves.

sorry this happen to you. hope you do somehow get this resolved.

    Does a 2001 bmw 3 series need a...?

Special tool to change out the windshield wiper
    Does a 2001 bmw 3 series need a...?
No, they clip on like any other car. You can get the wipers at Walmart.
    Does a 2001 bmw 3 series need a...?
nope simply clips on like any other wiper
the whole assembly can come off.... meaning the wiper itself and the clip for it. Your wiper arms curve into a hook at the end.... just slide the wipers off including the clip.... your new wipers will have different clips included when you purchase them, just find the ones that fiy the hook. It's literally plug-and-play, couple minutes of work.

Car mechanic cut my windshield fluid pipe?

Its a long story but I will make it short. Our back van tires needed changing so we went to samsclub(a grocery store with an auto department) and we decided to get all four tires changed. This store only had 2 of the tires so we decided to get all four changed from another store. But then we decided that it was too late to go to the other store so we decided to get only the back 2 tires changed from the store we were in, the auto department was about to close within a half hour so that made the mechanics mad, then they got done after an hour, when I came to check if they were done, the guy just said %26quot;sign here!%26quot; in a very rude manner, then when we were going home we saw that the windshield fluid didnt work. The fluid is very important because they put salt on the roads here to melt the snow and it gets on your windshield and prevents you from seeing anything, which is why the fluid very important.then I saw that the pipe for the fluid had been cut and the fluid was leaking,
Car mechanic cut my windshield fluid pipe?
Sams Club is part of Wal-Mart..

Contact the company headquarters in Bentonville Arkansas

It would be best if you had the managers name and the mechanics name....

If they waffle at you, tell them you will keep calling back until you get an answer....
Car mechanic cut my windshield fluid pipe?
This is going to be hard to prove but the least you can do is wright a letter to the owner or manager of the place and explain how you were treated and what you found. The cut can be easily repaired with a coupling (and about one minute's worth of work) but explain your dissatisfaction with your whole experience.
dont let them get away with it. go to a manager of the entire store. they need to know they are responsible for their mistakes.

How do you stay back 200 feet from those dump trucks that sling the rocks on your windshield?

When they pull right out in front of you on the road? I noticed a sign that said %26quot;Not responsible for broken windshields%26quot; and %26quot;Stay back 200 feet%26quot;. This was sitting behind him at a redlight. I had one that pulled out right in front of me on the Interstate and when I tried to change lanes to avoid the rocks he was slinging, a big rock still hit my windshield and broke it. I noticed they don't have any tags or numbers that you can call so if you drive a dump truck then is it ok for you to break a person's windshield because you have warning signs? If I were 200 feet back I couldn't even read the signs!
How do you stay back 200 feet from those dump trucks that sling the rocks on your windshield?
Give me the plate and I'll run it for you and get the info. How ya been sexy?
How do you stay back 200 feet from those dump trucks that sling the rocks on your windshield?
I got like 20 rock chips in my windshield , but they trow them at you when you meet them also .
dunno, but one got me last year ....
    I share your frustration.
Welcome to the loophole....I just look for the trucks that %26quot;look%26quot; like they are gonna throw stones...I swear sometimes I think there are little green evil gnomes in those trucks throwing the stones out....I get nail at least once every two months...I have 3 little stars in my windshield now...and this is my third windshield...little bastards are accurate too!!! LOL!
All you had to do is get out of your car and smile. Any guy in his right mind would stop and say hello. Then get his name and sue his a$$ since you cannot avoid a libellous action just because you have a sign up.

  • Can you put regular oil in a car after it was changed using synthetic oil ?

I changed my oil and when replacing the sticker on the windshield, I noticed the previous mechanic checked the synthetic oil box on the sticker. I had already used regular oil because that's what I normally do. Will this cause harm ?
Can you put regular oil in a car after it was changed using synthetic oil ?
No it won't hurt, as a matter of fact, Ford requires a synthetic blend in most of their vehicles. It is synthetic mixed with regular oil.
Can you put regular oil in a car after it was changed using synthetic oil ?
No differance, just change as usual.
It will not hurt anything at all.

How long does it take to do these car repairs / maintenance activities?

This is for a project i'm working on

Body Work (6 to 12 inch wide dent)

    Brake replacement

    Paint Job

    Suspension replacement

    tire change

    tire maintenance (alignment/rotation)

    Tune up

    Windshield replacement
How long does it take to do these car repairs / maintenance activities?
    1. Depending on where the dent is and if it is repairable or the panel must be replaced, around 3-5 days

    2. Complete brake job all the way around takes about 2-3 hours at the most $400 on average

    3. A complete paint job done properly will take about 2 weeks. That is assuming no body work needs to be done. No less than $2500 for a paint job only

    4. Complete suspension replacement will take about a day and a half of solid work. $3000 on average

    5. Changing all four tires takes about an hour $600 on average

    6. An alignment takes about an hour $70 on average

    7. A tune up depends on the car, but 4-6 hours on average $400 on average

    8. Windshield takes about 2 hours. $275 on average

Check engine light and oil not being changed?

So, according to the sticker that is on my window i should have changed my oil about 2000 miles ago. I noticed my check engine light came on this morning on my way to school. I mostly drive on the interstate and have been convinced that the sticker on my windshield lies about when i need to next change my oil. My question is, Could me not changing my oil make my check engine light come on? I drive an '03 cavalier and since I've had it (over a year now) I've had no problems.
Check engine light and oil not being changed?
That Check Engine light is totally unrelated to when you last changed the oil in your Cavalier.

Take the car to Autozone/Advance Auto Parts/Napa or another parts store and have them read your Check Engine Light codes for free to tell you what's really wrong.

Your particular car doesn't have an oil-life monitoring system, so there's no way the Check Engine Light would ever %26quot;know%26quot; to illuminate either after the oil has degraded or after a set number of miles after the oil was changed.
Check engine light and oil not being changed?
Your oil should be changed every 2,000 miles. Proper maintenance will prolong the life of your car and will save you money overall. And yes, that could be part of the problem. Take your car in to get looked at. It's a big investment and you should properly take care of it.
Needing oil or the oil needing to be changed could trigger the light to come on. Your oil could be low.
be care full with that, i slugged an engine up once and there was nothing i could do it needed an engine after that...

there is a hole egr system you can mess up... take it in asap
Every 2000 miles! Only if your money grows on trees!

Oil change every 3000 to 5000 miles is the norm. All hwy driving tends to make the miles run by fast so trust your sticker!

If your referring to the yellow/orange check engine light then that means the onboard computer has found a fault in the engine electronics/emissions. It is not related to the oil in any way. Any competent shop can check it at your convenience.

Now if your referring to the red engine oil light then we are probably chatting after your car is in the shop for another engine! The red engine lights means critical engine damaging problem is happening.
Lets put it this way. You do not need to clean your house. You can live in there for 20 years and never use a vacuum cleaner. But should you?

For longest health(eg best performance) change the oil when it says so. Sure you can go until it becomes %26quot;tar-like%26quot; again, but then it won't work and changing oil will be living nightmare.

Your check engine light is for a number of reasons- enngine oil to low coolant to a $500. cheque on the air cleaner addressed to you.

Maybe you should pop the hood and take a look?
Yes not changing your oil can make your check engine light come on.

The sticker on your windshield can only estimate by time when you need to change your oil, you should change your oil by your mileage.

Keep track of your odometer reading to tell if you've driven more than three thousand miles between oil changes.
Generally you want to change your oil every 3,000 miles or 3 months, which ever comes first. I'm not 100% sure of the dash lights on a cavalier but, I drive a chevy too, and I don't have an oil light so this could be your sign that its time to change the oil.

What is the best year to buy a used harley davidson sportster 883? (In terms of most valuble upgrades)?

Companies change and upgrade their bikes as the years progress. I know Harley switched to belts instead of chains, fuel injection, and etc. I am looking for something between the year 2000-2009 and I want to buy a year when a lot of important changes were made. I would like a detachable windshield, too, if they do that.
What is the best year to buy a used harley davidson sportster 883? (In terms of most valuble upgrades)?
For the most advanced and reliable bike, go with an 07 or newer. In 04 HD started the rubber mounted engine on the Sportsters, but all became injected in 07. Almost ANY accessory you want can be be in the HD Accessory catalog......

here is more info on the Sportster..........

If you like the 883...go for it......it can EASILY be converted to 1200 and get more power from that than a stock 1200.

Get pipes and an AIR CLEANER!!!!ALONG WITH the Screamin Eagle Super Tuner!!!!This will give the bike about 12-15 horsepower over stock....the super tuner will allow for future upgrades with no added expense on tuning.

It can be be converted to 1200 easily in the future...if you want. The 883 has smaller intake/exhaust ports which give it higher intake and exhaust gas velocity, creating more torque. The 883 also has a 2 teeth smaller front sprocket for more torque, a 883-to-1200 conversion will out run a factory 1200.....all this can be done for slightly less than the cost of the 1200 bike ALONE.

The Iron would be an excellent beginner bike, especially being an 883. The motor easily easily upgraded to 1200 with HD's 883-1200 conversion kit. The bike is not too heavy, has a good, average seat height, and handles rather well. I would HIGHLY recommend having the dealer do a Stage 1 Download into the computer even as completely stock, but it MUST be done if you have pipes and an air cleaner installed (preferred is to have a Screamin Eagle SUPER TUNER installed). If you have pipes put on it to make it louder, get the HD Screamin Eagle Hi-Flo Air Cleaner put on also.....let that EPA Restricted engine breathe!!!!!

Larry G above is DEAD wrong when it comes to being pointless past the Stage 1 download.

You want the Screamin Eagle SUPER TUNER!!!!.......and have it Dyno TUNED.....don't sttle for just having the base map loaded. The difference between being tuned and a base map is like night and day. The base maps are just that...a base to which to work form. Every engine is as individaul as we are as humans, they each require a little finesse and tuning to make them perform optimally. The Super Tuner will also allow for easier tuning for any future upgrade you may make.

A Stage 1 download is nothing more than a GENERIC map from HD that is %26quot;ok%26quot; for all bikes....this is CRAP!!!......the Stage 1 download was specifically made for a HD with Screamin Eagle Mufflers and Air Cleaner......not all mufflers (or complete exhaust systems) flow exactly the same and not all Air Cleaners flow exactly the same...meaning, if you change ANYTHING on the exhaust and intake that the Stage 1 was not designed for, it wil not work as well.....like I said every engine is DIFFERENT.

As far as power output goes....it will vary as to what components are used and how well it is tuned....but on an average from completely STOCK to an upgrade of exhaust/air cleaner, super tuner, about 12-15 horsepower........

Here is a XR1200 that I just did recently.........I had the heads ported with oversize valves, hi-flo guides, radius valve job, 10.5:1 compression, cnc ported throttle body, Screamin Eagle Air Cleaner, RedShift Cams, and modified STOCK exhaust, all with a Screamin Eagle Super Tuner modified ECM. This was actually one of the easiest bikes I ever tuned....it put out 112hp @ 6700rpm and 108 ft/lbs of torque @ 5900rpm..............these measurement are taken at the WHEEL...not the crank.....and are higher figures than a STOCK HD 103%26quot; Big Twin.............

If you have any other questions, just email me, will be glad to help.

With the 3 answers here, and with what others above me have added, I think the Sportster line-up make great beginner bikes....also the 883's insurance rates are usually a little lower.

ALSO............alot of people tend to feel cramped up on the Sportsters.....they do make FORWARD CONTROLS!!!!!.....this will allow you to stretch your legs out for better comfort.
What is the best year to buy a used harley davidson sportster 883? (In terms of most valuble upgrades)?
pretty much any year you want really ride a 2000 model got new and im sure i have as many add ons as it cost me to buy it new pretty easy to fit pretty much what you want its just what you want to pay for the problem

  • Have you noticed that in the past few years automakers have decided to sacrifice visibility for styling?

Particularly with Chrysler products and Hummers, who have the %26quot;small windows look cool%26quot; syndrome, the pillars of cars (by the windshield, between the front/back seats and on the back area) have gotten bigger, and compromised visibility to the back because it seems to %26quot;enhance%26quot; the visual appeal of the car or truck, but makes it impossible to check your blind spot when changing lanes and backing up. What's your take on this trend and which car have you driven (yours or a rental) that seemed to be really bad at huge blind spots?
Have you noticed that in the past few years automakers have decided to sacrifice visibility for styling?
I recently considered buying a 2008 Tundra but after a test drive i decided not too because I didnt feel safe driving it. The windshield angle and the huge blind spots were too much. there is no way one could parallel park or back into somewhere without sticking your body out the window to see what you are about to hit. ive driven many full sized trucks/suvs and have never had such feelings.
Have you noticed that in the past few years automakers have decided to sacrifice visibility for styling?
my 97 eldorado has a blind spot at the rear pillars, but i just stick my head out the window, so it doesn't matter...
Compared to the other cars I've driven, I never liked the way the back end of my '00 Taurus sat up so high. When looking in the rear view mirror, it looked as if someone was tailgating even if they were yards away, because it made it difficult to see the license plate and headlights on the following car. I'm driving a 500 now, and like it much better...you sit up a lot higher than in most cars, and it's easier to see all around.
This is nothing new. Car makers have come out with some models that are almost impossible to see out of for years.

The Torrinos of the mid 70's, Corvette stingrays of the 60's, the fast back mustangs of the late 60's and early 70's and on and on. I could name a couple dozen.

Hood latch broken right after mechanic work?

I was on a freeway about a mile away from the mechanic just done for oil change. suddenly the hood open and crush windshield. luckily I had not injury nor caused accident at all. the car was towed back the mechanic and he said the latch just got broken. my car is from 1995, he offered me to fix it without labor, so I get charged parts+tax+towing cost. is it reasonable offer?
Hood latch broken right after mechanic work?
He is responsible for your accident, he was the last one under the hood , he may have forgot to close the hood all together, not only is your hood latch broke but so are your hinges and windshield. I did the same thing and the hood popped open when I hit a bump and cost me a new set of hinges. good luck.
Hood latch broken right after mechanic work?
yes, that seems fair. but you should tell them they will be reported to the better business bureau if your car isn't checked before its returned to you in the future. this is something every mechanic should do before giving the customer the keys.
