I just bought a 1994 BMW 740i and got a full synthetic oil change, the first time I've ever gotten one. The sticker the oil change place gave me for my windshield still says 3000 miles till the next change, but I've had alot of people tell me synthetic oil changes last longer.

Even an off the counter oil like Mobil 1 has lasted up to 18,000 miles in a early 2000 Camaro V-8.

I don't know what brand of oil, or your driving habits, but you should get 5000 to 7500 miles between oil changes depending on your driving habits. If and When you check your oil and your down 1 quart or liter, change your oil no matter the mileage. good luck
It depends on the oil. They vary between 3 5 or 7 thousand miles. If the sticker says 3,000 you should get it changed then.
it does last a lot longer that's the reason for using synthetic oil in the first place,i run mine around 8 thousand before i change it,you can go anywhere from 5-8 thousand and not hurt a thing that oil was designed to do that with,if you don't feel comfortable with running it that high,change it at 5 thousand,either way it will be fine,good luck with it.
Well, you don't change oil because it's worn out. You change it because it's contaminated with gas, acids, and moisture, so even though synthetic oil IS more durable, it gets contaminated just as quickly as petro oil, making those oil changes very expensive.
Consumer reports Magazine did extensive testing of synthetics and petro oil and found %26quot;no significant reduction in wear of the internal parts%26quot; of the engines running synthetic oil.
If you change oil every 3K-4K and use quality petro oil, you get very little benefit from switching to synthetic.
Of course, the boys that SELL synthetic will try to make you believe you can run 25K miles on synthetics, but I don't buy it.

I'm no expert but considering that my friend bought a brand new bmw in 2005 and the computer on the car said the oil change wouold take place after 35,000miles, i thought wow.
as others have said it depends on driving conditions, etc, but i believe you can get a lot of mileage out of it.
I was told though that it was best used in new cars. I was told that older cars could actually develop issues using the newer synthetic oil. don't take my word foir it though.
If you car usually gets 3K on an oil change, synthetic can go 5K. They should have set your reminder sticker 5K, but the computers are set to use 3K by default. It was either an oversight or in the case of some less honest shops, it could have been deliberate. Synthetic is not just a sales ploy. Synthetic is a more robust oil and it does take longer to %26quot;break down%26quot; or become contaminated because conventional oil already has contaminants in it. Syntheitc oil has none. Conventional oil is pumped up from the ground and has to be refined to remove all the unwanted materials. Base conventional oil is about 99% oil, 1% impurities. Synthetic base oil is the same thing as conventional oil, except its 100% pure.
